AMAZING REVELATION.

Turn to Zechariah chapter 4-14 and read these remarkable prophecies. These prophesies are lit up by other Old Testament prediction concerning the first Advent of the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ to this earth.

THE COMING, SHEPHERD KING.

God had an eye against the land of Hamath,Tyre and Siden. These were the cities of Syria and Phoenicia and against the cities of Philistia. But He will camp around Jerusalem and look after it and watch over it with His eyes. He is protecting them today!

He will judge all the Gentile nations.

Zechariah  became excited at what will happen when the coming King will arrive and the coming blessing of Zion.

“REJOICE GREATLY, OH DAUGHTER OF ZION;“

“BEHOLD YOUR KING COMES TO YOU, RIDING UPON AN ASS, EVEN A COLT A FOLD OF AN ASS.“

The King will set free the prisoners from Babylon (the pit!)

“I WILL GIVE BACK DOUBLE UNTO YOU.”

He will render to the returned captives a double recompense to them for all their chastisements.

Today, you can claim that promise and call back from Satan all that he has stolen from you.                                     Satan is a thief and a liar. He not only steals your finances, but he also steals many other things that would bring glory to the Father in Heaven.

“SHOUT ALOUD, OH DAUGHTER OF JERUSALEM.”

In Jesus Name you can call back those things such as:

YOUR HEALTH.

YOUR MEMORY.

YOUR BUSINESS.

YOUR LOVED ONE.

THE BACKSLIDING CHILD.

YOUR FINANCES.

YOUR MARRIAGE.

You have the authority to do so in the power and authority invested in you by God Himself through Jesus Christ.

In this wonderful book the Lord promised Israel an abundance of blessings over them.  He has become:

“JEALOUS FOR ZION.”

Paul reminds us in the New Testament that He is:

“JEALOUS OVER US WITH A GODLY JEALOUSY.” 

If only we would be consistent in our walk of obedience before him. We grieve his heart and He cannot bless us abundantly as He would like. He has no choice but to chastise us until we repent and fall at His feet in humble contrition. 

Israel took the low road of compromise and sadly they are under false Shepherds ever since. These Shepherds will remain until the closing of this age.

Yes, the true Shepherd was despised and rejected, with tradgic consequences  they brought up on themselves.

No wonder Jesus wept over Jerusalem, and on that very day, He fulfilled Zechariah 9:9.

He longingly said to them.

“IF ONLY YOU HAD KNOWN IN THIS DAY, EVEN YOU, THOSE THINGS THAT BELONG TO PEACE.”

Luke 19:42.

This is a very challenging word for you and I dear reader.

Why don’t you come aside with the Lord and ask Him to reveal to you the changes that you can make to receive the fullness of the Blessing He wants to bestow upon you!

May He fill you with all His fullness and Glory in Christ Jesus.

INTRODUCTION.

This book may seem complicated after reading the little book of Haggai, yet it is not in reality, as we shall see. Both books are written at the same point in History, which was the turning point in God’s dealings with Jerusalem and the covenant people of Israel.

You can look at the little scroll of Haggai as an introduction to this larger Work of Zechariah.

Zechariah was a priest and a prophet. We begin in the year 500 B.C. in the second year of King Darius in the Mediterranean empire.

Chapter 1:1, we are among the fifty thousand or more Jewish people who returned 16 years earlier from their exile in Babylon. At this time, the priests led the nation.

Zechariah was God’s mouthpiece to challenge the people for their slackness in rebuilding of the Temple.

This book is divided into two sections.

The first 8 chapters are mainly ‘vision’ chapters written during the building of the Temple.

The remaining 6 chapters were written considerably after the Temple was built.

1.THE EARLIER PROPHESIES.

The seven visions are really ‘one’ as they all came in one night on the 24th of November in the reign of Darius.

They were listed in this order.

THE FOUR HORSES.

THE FOUR HORNS AND SMITHS.

THE MEASURING LINE.

THE RECLOTHING OF JOSHUA THE HIGH PRIEST.

THE SCROLL, EPHAH, AND THE WOMEN.

FINALLY, THE FOUR CHARIOTS.

2. LATER PROPHESIES: AFTER THE TEMPLE WAS REBUILT.

THE COMING SHEPHERD KING.

THE BLESSINGS THAT FOLLOW.

THE OFFENCE OF THE SHEPHERD-KING, AND ITS TRAGIC RESULTS.

THE FINAL TRAVAIL AND TRIUMPH OF ZION: JEHOVAH’S VICTORY.

We need to understand that here they look beyond the immediate and local, to an ultimate fulfilment at the second coming of Christ.

The reason why the full realization of such passages is yet future is that when the Messiah-King came and offered Himself to His people, they rejected and crucified Him.

The result being, they delayed the promised age of blessing.

If you and I were alive in this age of Zechariah, would we have listened  repented and taken heed to the living Word of God, or would we been as unbelieving as they were.

Some christians today are in a similar position, unbelieving, and disobedient to the warnings of the Lord Jesus.

There will come a time when He will refuse to know them and they in sheer desperation will cry out.

“BUT LORD, WHEN DID WE SEE YOU HUNGRY, THIRSTY, HOMELESS, IN PRISON, OR SICK OR NAKED?”

Sadly, some people think they can live like the devil and still go to Heaven when the time comes.

Dear reader when you are truly born again, you will obey the Lord because you “love Him” and appreciate all He has done for you.

You will hate sin and the things of the world and be willing to take up your cross and follow Him.

Maybe it might cost you your very life!

Come to the Saviour, and make Him Lord, don’t delay, as the time is short before He returns to set up His Kingdom on this earth.🌎

This “Book of HAGGAI” is a meaningful little fragment. Although it covers only about four months, it records one of the crucial turning points in the Divine dealings with Jerusalem and the Covenant people

(The Jews).

It had to do with the Jewish “Remnant” who returned to Jerusalem and Judea after they were exiled to Babylon and it should be read along with Ezra.

It was in 520 B.C. that this otherwise unknown prophet. HAGGAI stood up and voiced his message to the leaders of the returned Jews.

Sixteen years before this, the Persian Emperor, Cyrus, had issued his historic decree for rebuilding Jehovah God’s Temple at Jerusalem, and those who returned numbered 50 thousand people.

They were under the leadership of Zerubbabel to carry out the Kings proclamation.

See, Ezra chapter 3:8-13.

The prospects for rebuilding were looking good. Until, circumstances turned adverse, their enemies from the mongrel race of Samaritans had “hired counsellors” to misrepresent the cause of the Jews throughout all the reign of Cyrus.

And when the next King Artaxerxes reigned, they had managed to bring a complete stop to the programme.

Fourteen years had passed; the temple had remained unbuilt and the foundations were covered with junk, and debris and overgrown  weeds. The Jews had become indifferent to all the rubble and had just about lost interest in making an effort to continue the rebuilding.

Have you ever fallen into the trap of not tidying your house, your car. Have you neglected your personal hygiene and style?

Have you neglected business and family responsibilities to the point of being so used to the rubble that you overlook and live with it?

Then you allow other debris to pile up in your life to the point that it buries you under the clutter of irresponsibility to do that which is right in God’s eyes and do something about it?

Do you have spiritual weeds growing over your eyes, clouding your vision, and is that dream from God that was utmost in your mind now neglected?                      Have you chosen to give up altogether? Be of good cheer as Jesus cares; he can heal your hurt and restore your zeal to start over again. Nothing is too complicated for God.

The words of the Prophet should not only be a rebuke to the Jews but to us today. It is so easy to become slack and choose not to do anything about it at all?

What about reading the Bible, praying, attending Church, giving and reaching out to the lost?

Leading people to Jesus Christ is not just for pastors or evangelists.

It doesn’t take long before you open the door to the Evil One and he adds to your life other things that do not honour the Lord.

As the Jews we become paralyzed with a wrong attitude and justify our behavior.

Everyone of us are guilty of backsliding.

YET!

We can get up and get going again.

First, you must be penetant and repent of the neglect of your responsibility to your calling, and ask the Lord to support your resolve to obey Him in every detail of your lives. Ask Him to confirm your calling. Then begin again.

BE STRONG AND DO IT!

YOU CAN BE THE START OF ANY REVIVAL THAT GOD SENDS TO THIS EARTH.

THIS SHOULD BE YOUR CONVICTION:

REVIVAL IS THE SOVEREIGN ACT OF GOD … BUT EVANGELISM IS A CONSTANT OBLIGATION OF THE CHURCH. 

EACH OF US CAN REACH THE LOST, ONE PERSON AT A TIME.

KEEP THIS IN YOUR MIND. ANYTHING THAT YOU DESIRE MORE THAN GOD BECOMES AN IDOL, AND GOD IS AGAINST IDOLATRY.

GOD SPEAKS TO ZEPHANIAH.

Zephaniah introduces himself, and we learn that he is  a descendant of “Hizkiah.” In the Revised Version, he is referred to as King Hezekiah. So by distinction, we learn that he is of royal descent.

He is a prince of the house of David and the great-great-grandson of King Hezekiah.

He also was a contemporary of the prophet Jeremiah during the days of King Josiah. These were the days of Hezekiah’s reforms. Sadly it was an outward reform but far from what was needed. It was not an inward revival.

The prophetess told Josiah that his reforms were good, but there was no heart change. In effect, she said: “Yes, King Josiah, do all that was in your mind; it is good, but the heart of the people has become gross.” (Outward and unacceptable.)

God won’t hold back His judgement, unless there is a real change from within.

A HEART CHANGE.

Today, there are so many people whose hearts are unchanged. They appear to be good Christians, but their hearts are far from God. How can we know these hypocrites?

                                         By their fruit, the hypocrite reveals his true identity. They tell lies. They come to church when there is nothing better to do. They are proud, arrogant, judgmental and unrepentant.

Are they truly saved? Only God can tell!

On the day of His Judgement, the sheep will be separated from the goats, and then the whole world will know who is indeed His.

In the meantime, we need to pray that they will be revived in their hearts earnestly. They will truly allow the light of the Gospel to reveal God’s Word to them and they will be truly saved. Amen!

ZEPHANIAH’S MESSAGE.

“THROUGH JUDGEMENT TO BLESSING.”

1. LOOK WITHIN! 

God’s wrath will come upon Judah. The purpose of God to judge.

Chapters 1-6.            The day of judgement is “at hand.”

Chapter 7:18.           And so – A plea to Jerusalem.

Chapter 2:1-3. 2.

LOOK AROUND! – WRATH IS COMING UPON ALL NATIONS.

Chapter 2. 4:3 and chapter 8.

West, East – Philistia, (now Palestine,) Moab, Ammon. Chapters 4-11. South, North – Ethiopia and Assyria Chapters 12-15. And so – “Woe” to Jerusalem. Chapter 3:1-8.

LOOK BEYOND GOD’S WRATH, TO GOD’S HEALING.                    

Chapter 3:9-20.                                                   The conversion of the Gentile peoples.     The restoring of the covenant people. (Jews) And then the – New Jerusalem. Verses 16-30.

In this book Zephaniah brings a contrast between the very first verse and the very last.

Chapter 1:1.

“I WILL UTTERLY CONSUME.”

Chapter 3:20.

“I WILL MAKE A NAME AND A PRAISE.”

This is the fullness of blessing. Zepheniah’s main message was that he knew the calamity would come upon his people since Israel became a nation. He cried to his countrymen.

“THE DAY OF JEHOVAH IS AT ✋ HAND.”

Chapter 1:7.     

Do you know you are also the Lord’s spokesman because the ‘Day of the Lord’ ‘now’ is truly at hand?     

We are according to endtime prophesy are in the very last days. The signs of the times points to it’s near approach.

JESUS WILL RETURN!

The Church (His body will be raptured.) The Antichrist will arise and God will pour out His wrath on all the earth.

Oh dear reader, are you ready to meet Him when he calls his beloved ‘up and away’ forever?               Please be honest about your christianity.

Are you truly born again?

Have you truly repented of your sin?

Have you truly asked Jesus to save you?

I BEG YOU… 🙏… PRAY NOW AND INVITE HIM TO TAKE FULL CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE!

The day of the Lord will bring supreme joy to Christ’s own.                                 

But it is well that we should cry aloud for the terror of that day for many others.

Read chapter 1: 15,16.

Finally we notice that this 📚 book of Zephaniah is divided into three parts.

1.GOD PERMITS.

2.GOD PUNISHES.

3.GOD PERFECTS.

The Lord permits sin and suffering.

He punishes the wicked usually by overruling natural processes.                  He allowed Israel to be punished by wicked nations.      But He turns and punishes these nations for their wrongs.                           You may suffer as an innocent victim, but God has pledged for you a final recompense and restitution.

Darkness will give away to light.

Smiting will give way to smiling.

Then God will fulfill every promise He has given you. He has perfected you in Christ!

HE WILL REJOICE OVER HIS REDEEMED SONS AND DAUGHTERS.

HE WILL REST IN HIS 💕 LOVE.

HE WILL SING FOR JOY OVER YOU – HIS BELOVED.

The prophet Habakkuk wrote this prophecy after the fall of Nineveh in 612 B.C., when the Chaldeans (Babylonians) rose to become the new dominant power over the nations.

Years before HABAKKUK, the prophet Isaiah had forewarned King Hezekiah that his treasures would be carried away to Babylon and his sons would become eunuchs in the palace there. Isaiah 34:6,7.

HABAKKUK was a contemporary of Jeremiah the prophet.                            He was a prophet of fateful days in Judah. It was during. This time, HABAKKUK took up his pen to write.

God began to reveal to him how near the time of the end was. HABAKKUK struggled to put pen to paper as God’s words emotionally drained him.

The prophesy began with a ‘sob’ and ended with a ‘song.’ This prophesy is relevant to us today.

We can divide the book into three parts,

1. THE BURDEN. chapter one.

2. THE VISION. chapter two.

3. THE PRAYER. chapter three.

Let’s examine them to find a more precise understanding.

A BURDEN.

HABAKKUK was perplexed and began with a sigh.😔

“OH LORD, HOW LONG SHALL I CRY, AND YOU DON’T SEEM TO BE LISTENING TO ME?“

“I AM INFORMING YOU ABOUT THE VIOLENCE, AND YOU WILL NOT SAVE!” WHY DO YOU MAKE ME AWARE OF INIQUITY AND PERVERSENESS IN THIS LAND.”

His problem was the silence, inactivity,and apparent unconcern of God. Sin was rife, no-one was listening to the prophets and God Himself seemed to be doing nothing.

GOD ENCOURAGES THE PROPHET.

This is an answer to those of you who feel abandoned by the Lord and you pray 🙏 day and night for God to do something on your behalf.

Yet, He ‘has heard’ and answered your cry. Please don’t doubt God or yourself because,

“HE WILL DO A WORK IN YOUR DAYS WHICH YOU WON’T BELIEVE, EVEN IF HE TOLD YOU BEFORE HAND.”

Instead of doubting God. Why don’t you do as HABAKKUK did? As the prophet, you go to the watchtower of prayer, and by faith, give thanks, then WAIT!!  Wait!  Expectingly wait!

Sometimes your answer is not the finances you need, or your marriage fixed, a new house 🏠 or a car, a job, or to pass an important exam.

It is not a logical decision but a ‘Spiritual’ one.

THE JUST DHALL LIVE BY THEIR FAITH

Verse 4 and 14. Pray for the glory of God in that situation, that person. All your prayers must first be toward God Himself as you focus on the Lord Jesus and His finished work on Calvary.

Stop trying to fix everything yourself, let go, and let God do it Himself.

A PRAYER.

HABAKKUK prayed for “revival in the midst of the years.” First he pondered over God’s mighty doings in the past. His marvels in the time of Exodus onwards.

You also must remind yourself of the miracles he has performed for you, especially great answers to prayer. It will make it easier for you to trust Him for bigger things. Yes, even greater miracles!

HABAKKUK trembled at the coming judgement upon his own people, now he speaks of himself.

“IT IS NOW I WILL  ‘REST’ IN THE DAY OF TRIBULATION. I WILL ‘REJOICE’  IN JEHOVAH; I WILL JOY IN THE GOD OF MY SALVATION. GOD THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH.” (Verse 18). By

The literal translation is this,

“I WILL JUMP FOR JOY IN THE LORD; I WILL SPIN AROUND FOR DELIGHT IN GOD.”

Here is faith at its best. Here is Joy at its best. Can you activate your faith to the point of sheer joy?

Dancing the dance of “Faith” Faith is believing God for the ‘best,’ even when the circumstances are at their ‘worst.’ What a victory!                     May it be ours!

Let’s go back and see faith in action in the previous chapters.

Chapter 1.

FAITH GRAPPLES WITH A PROBLEM.

Chapter 2.

FAITH GRASPING THE SOLUTION.

Chapter 3.

FAITH GLORYING IN ASSURANCE.

The key verse in HABAKKUK is found in Chapter 2:4. “THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY HIS FAITH.”

This little book is telling you not to judge by the appearances of the hour, because God of the universe is working everything out for His glory and for ‘your’ good. 

To you who patiently wait, God doesn’t remain silent. Oh, if we would only wait and give God the time, He would prepare our minds to receive what He has to say.

We tend to run ahead in our minds and try to fix it ourselves. Don’t think about it all the time. Be still ( in your mind ) and know that HE IS GOD!

Remember, when you look at your circumstances you will be in despair.

When you focus on Jesus and wait upon God you will automatically dance for joy. You will hear His voice and He will give you a vision for His appointed time.

“VENGEANCE IS MINE SAYS THE LORD”

In our last study we are reminded that pay-back belongs to the Lord and not to us.

He will avenge you in a day yet to come. In Romans chapter 12:19. He Promises …

“BELOVED, AVENGE NOT YOURSELVES BUT GIVE UP YOUR ANGER.

For It Is written,

“VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY, Says the Lord.”

Again, Nineveh brings us to think about this present evil world, its false religion. Its corruption and cruelty toward men and it’s eventual overthrow by Divine Judgement.

In Nahum chapter 1:2. It is prophesied that one will come out of Nineveh who will imagine evil against Jehovah God.

He was referring to Rabshakah who came from Assyria to terrify Jerusalem.

2 Kings 18 and lsaiah chapter 36-on. This is so worth the reading! He was a picture of the “man of sin.” Foul mouthed, speaking insolent things and exalting the Assyrian god over Jehovah Himself.

He displayed the spirit of Antichrist again and again, we recognised this spirit at work in other Godless men, who defy Our Lord and His Christ.

In our times there will arise the “Beast.” Whose number is 666! It is written in 2nd Thessalonians chapter 2:8.

“THEN SHALL THE LAWLESS ONE SHALL BE REVEALED WHO THE LORD SHALL CONSUME WITH THE BREATH OF HIS MOUTH AND DESTROY WITH THE BRIGHTNESS OF HIS COMING.”

Nineveh is fallen, is fallen!

Jehovah shall not quit. His Government is righteous. He is the stronghold of the godly, and Christ is His supreme pledge.

“LOOK, HE COMES AND EVERY EYE SHALL SEE HIM.”

Wrongs shall be made right and …

“ALL THINGS MADE NEW.”

The book of Nahum is not a book of revenge. It’s about Divine Justice. God Himself finally shall avenge such wrong.

In these days when monstrosities of wickedness terrorise the earth on a scale never known before, when Christians and godly people suffer cruel persecution.        It is “RIGHT”for us to pray for and to take refuge in the soon coming of our Lord Jesus and the vengance of God on the wicked and His …

THE DISAPPEARANCE OF NINEVEH.

What happened to Nineveh? the book of Jonah ended so abruptly!

Did you ever wonder what happened to the great city of Nineveh, the significant capital? Did they repent of their evil wickedness against God? No, they returned to their old ways and piled sin upon sin.

Nineveh became worse! Now they must learn that…

(“wrath restrained”) as in Jonah’s days. Is (“wrath reserved”)

If! there is a wilful return to wickedness.

Though God will forgive “sin repented of.” He will not condone sin” persisted in.”

Nahum takes over where Jonah left off. They could not presume upon the Grace of God nor His silence.

We must also be aware! God is not mocked and there is no escape.                                       For Nahum goes on to say:

“Jehovah has His way in the worldwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet”

Chapter 1:3-6.

Compassion can never be exercised at the expense of Righteousness. There must be a settling of accounts with God.

Nineveh swelled with pride in the imagination of her own invulnerability. But now besides rebuking Nineveh’s pride, oppression, idolatry and the defiance of the Lord God Almighty. NAHUM publishes the decree:

“SHE SHALL EVER BE DESTROYED.”

God was tender and compassionate through Jonah but shows severity through Nahum.                 

He is the same today and from age to age. He is not less severe in new Testament times as He was in the old Testament. Nor is He less GRACIOUS .

“I AM THE LORD AND I CHANGE NOT.”

The gospel does not water Him down, or white wash sin!

Christians and Churches have adopted a light view of sin and embraced Homosexuality, Immorality, Abortion, Fornication and telling of Lies.

“God understands,” so they say, disregarding sin.

No! “He is the same Yesterday, Today and Forever.”

He said,” I am God, and I Change not”                                We ‘must’ obey His Word! Do you think you can get away with sin?

Remember that God said to Cain, who brutally killed his brother, Abel, then lied to God-

“SIN LAYS AT YOUR DOOR.” IN GOD’S SIGHT, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS LITTLE SIN!

SIN IS SIN. NOR DOES TIME ERASE IT.

SIN IS COMING SHORT OF GOD’S. STANDARDS.

                                              

AS WE ALL KNOW, HE IS COMPLETELY FLAWLESS, PERFECT IN EVERY WAY.

He only chooses not to remember the sins we confess! But Cain was unrepentant, never fulfilled his destiny and lived out of the ultimate blessing that God had for him. Punishment is inevitable.

So let us keep short accounts of sin.

YOU SIN – CONFESS IT “AT ONCE” TO GOD HIMSELF AND TO THOSE WE SIN AGAINST IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST THE ANOINTED ONE.

JESUS WILL   FORGIVE A TRULY REPENTANT SINNER. YOU ARE NEVER REJECTED BY HIM.                           

That is imperative for those who were affected by our offence.

“Then you will have a conscience void of offence before God and man.”

THEN YOU WILL SLEEP AT NIGHT!!

Amen.

A PRAYER, LORD GOD, YOU ARE A HOLY AWESOME GOD. THERE IS NONE LIKE YOU. I HAVE BEEN HIDING MY SIN FOR MANY YEARS. I NOW, AT THIS MOMENT, CONFESS IT HONESTLY TO YOU: ( name it.)

(be open and honest before Him… He already knows anyhow.)

NAHUM HIMSELF.

The name of Nahum means “Comfort.” In all that we learn from the prophecies of Nahum, there is genuine Comfort for the godly. It’s the Comfort of knowing that in the righteous government of God, the outrages of sinful evildoers who do not repent are Divinely avenged. (paid back)

For us as Christians, revenge is not right, but the appeal is that GOD HIMSELF will avenge the wicked doer who is unrepentant towards Him. God is the judge of evil nations and will not by-pass His Righteous judgement.

The fall of Nineveh proclaims that there is a final vindication of right against wrong! That’s why the elect cry out in the last days,

“Avenge us for the wrong done to us on this earth!”

Read Luke 18:7,8.

Revelation 6:10,11.

The elect are those who gave their lives as a testimony of their love for God, for His Word and for”Christ” from the beginning to the end of time.

You who are in turmoil,

Persecuted,

Abandoned,

Misunderstood.

Rejected.

Sick and in pain, all for the cause of the Gospel of Christ will be avenged in that Great and Glorious Day when Christ sets up His Kingdom on this Earth.

After the rapture of the Church ( the body of Christ, His Bride) there will arise the “Beast” Whose number is 666 this is recorded in,

2 Thess chapter 2:8.

“THEN SHALL THE LAWLESS ONE BE REVEALED, WHOM THE LORD SHALL CONSUME WITH THE BREATH OF HIS MOUTH, AND DESTROY WITH THE BRIGHTNESS OF HIS COMING “

(Light dispels darkness)

Yes,”Nineveh has fallen, has fallen! “

Jehovah will not aquit,

His Government is righteous. He is your stronghold in the day of trouble and Christ is His supreme pledge.

“LO,  HE COMES AND EVERY EYE SHALL SEE HIM” WRONGS SHALL BE RIGHTED!”

“THE VALLEYS SHALL BE EXALTED AND THE MOUNTAINS SHALL BE BROUGHT LOW.”

“THE DARK SHALL BE MADE LIGHT, AND THE CROOKED SHALL BE MADE STRAIGHT;”

“AND THE KINGDOMS OF THIS WORLD SHALL BE MADE THE KINGDOM OF OUR LORD AND OF HIS CHRIST!”

The book of Nahum is not a book of personal revenge, its about Divine Justice. God Himself shall avenge such wrong.

These days, never known before, Christian and Godly people suffer in many lands, the cruelties that are afflicted upon them. Is it “right” for us to pray for and take refuge in the soon-coming vengeance of our God on the wicked and His Vindication upon the upright?

HANG IN THERE…IT WON’T BE LONG!

JONAH’S ENCOUNTER WITH GOD.

Chapter four gives us the supreme message of the book.

It can be expressed in a few words; it is one of,          

Affecting tenderness.

So passionate was Jonah’s religious patriotism that his self interests were sunk in his deep concern for lsrael.

Jonah loved Israel more than his own life.

Why is he trying to manipulate God?

I think he could not see God’s ultimate plan for Israel in the future. He made up his mind to deliver them himself, right then and there!

Do you and I try to make things happen, even good things, without any instruction from God?    

We believe that we are in partnership with Him, and we think He needs our assistance.

Hey!! He works ‘through us!’ Not ‘for’ us.” We cannot dictate how He should work, nor can we manipulate Him.

We cannot do a wrong to make a right! 

We must do right till the stars fall. Do right to the last call, and do right when no one stands by you; the Lord is ever with you.

JUST DO RIGHT! 👍

The Lord tenderly reproved him with a question.

“JONAH! ARE YOU DOING RIGHT TO BE ANGRY?”      

We need to know that God does nothing wrong. He is just and totally without error! We cannot do wrong to make a right! Don’t even tell a lie to protect yourself.

Jonah left Nineveh and sat under a booth (a temporary wood structure) to see what would become of the city. Verse 5.

Jonah was so upset that Nineveh would be spared. He just wanted to die.

Yes, he obeyed the Lord, but reluctantly.

Do you do this?              

GOD THEN PREPARED THREE THINGS.

He prepared a “Gourd” which was a trailing, climbing, large leaf plant that brought lots of shade over Jonah.

God is so beautiful, He shows compassion for repenting sinners and also His own, who still struggle with sin.

“HIS COMPASSIONS THEY FAIL NOT.”

Some scholars say the Gourd was a Caster oil plant. The miracle was not the type of plant, but the acceleration of it’s growth. See verse ten.

“It grew up in a night and made Jonah exceedingly glad of the Gourd.” Due to excessive heat of the weather.

I keep thinking about the Grace of God. He is so patient and willing that not anyone should perish but that all men should come to repentance. He is holding back the return of Christ because so many people still have the time to repent, believe and receive the Gospel.

He has already given us the instructions on how to share the Gospel for it is indeed …

“THE POWER OF GOD UNTO SALVATION.”

ARE YOU SHARING THE GOSPEL?

Do you need to be saved?

You can pray this prayer of Salvation, and the Lord Jesus will save you, and the Holy Spirit will live inside you. God will accept you into Heaven when you die, and you will thrive on this earth as you will in Heaven.

THE PRAYER.

“God, Creator of all Heaven and 🌎 earth. Thank you for the plan of Salvation. (God in Christ reconciling the world to Himself) I believe He died and rose again and is at your right hand in Glory. Please forgive me for all my sins, come into my life now, fill me Holy Spirit with your presence and power to follow Jesus in this world and the next.”

Amen.

As quickly the Gourd grew it withered and died. God sent a worm to devour it.

Jonah was not a happy camper! Left in the boiling sun, he wanted to die. He had not let go of his desire to see the enemy of Israel destroyed. He waited in the midday heat of the sun to see if God would change his mind.

God, our loving merciful God reminded Jonah that it would not only mean the death of the wicked but also little children, infants and all their livestock, pets and animals.

Those who don’t know the right hand from the left would be babies and little children.

The account finished abruptly, and no more was recorded.

Sadly, after God’s Grace was revealed to Nineveh on this occasion, years later, they disregarded God’s Grace and returned to their wicked ways.                                        Their enemies annihilated  them. How heartbreaking for God and them.
