2. THE BOOK OF JUDGES.

SIN’S CONSEQUENCES.

As you read Judges, you soon discover a pattern set out to teach us:

SIN AND SUFFERING DO FOLLOW EACH OTHER.

But TRUE REPENTANCE AND SALVATION BRING DELIVERANCE! It does not always conclude that all sickness is the result of sin.

But you must put away the ‘EVIL THING’ that separates you from God.

(1) SIN.

“THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL DID EVIL IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD”

(2) SUFFERING.

“AND THE LORD DELIVERED THEM INTO THE HAND OF
OF THE MIDIANITES.”

(3) SUPPLICATION

“AND THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL CRIED UNTO THE LORD.”

4) “THEN GOD SENT AN ANGEL.”

5) DELIVERANCE.

“GOD RAISED A JUDGE.”

How much evil are you tolerating in your life?
How much like the world have you become by allowing it to take hold of your life?

People will know you are a Christian by the way you live your life.

Satan will tell you it doesn’t matter; it’s a small compromise. Yet sure enough, down the track, sin will attach itself to you, and after a while, you won’t be aware of its having power over you.

GOD’S WORD FOR US TODAY IS VERY CLEAR.

“COME OUT from among them and be SEPARATE,” says the Lord.”

“TOUCH NOT the unclean thing, and I will RECEIVE YOU and be a FATHER unto you. And You shall be to me, my SONS AND DAUGHTERS, SAYS THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY.”
2 Corinthians 4:17, 18.

You may not have the same consequences as the Israelites had, for example:
The MIDIANITES at your back door! To plume your property.

Our battle comes in the form of compromise in the realms of:

Modern technology.

Your computer, television, the books you read, the theatre, etc.

The kind of things you allow on your Television screen.

Pornography, filthy language, violence, homosexuality, and negative thinking, such as:

Fear, rejection, and self-condemnation. Murder and adulterous living. Addiction and abortion, etc.

Yes, we live in the Age of Grace,

BUT GOD DOES NOT TOLERATE SIN AGAINST HIM IN ANY AGE OR ANY FORM.

You may be thinking
It doesn’t affect me! Oh yes, it does! It affects your intimate fellowship with God and the anointing you can enjoy to empower you in His service.

You get so used to sin that you don’t recognise it and rationalise your behaviour.

THE GAUGE I USE TO GUIDE ME, YOU CAN FIND WRITTEN IN Philippians 3:7-9. Whatsoever is etc. Read it slowly and carefully.
Philippians 4:8.

It’s not Legalistic!

It’s Purifying!

NOT EASY, BUT SO WORTH IT!

Amen.

1. THE BOOK OF JUDGES.

LIVING OBJECT LESSONS.

Moses and Joshua very well taught that FAITH in JEHOVAH as the ONLY TRUE GOD, was the ONLY WAY to Victory and Well-Being.

God had to raise living Object Lessons to remind them of this.

However, the people responded to the extent that they served their own selfish interests.

They only wanted temporary relief instead of a permanent fix, i.e. the saving of their necks from Bondage at the moment!

They did not love God for His patience; for them, God was a convenient helper in a time of extremity.

And when a victory was won, they soon returned to their own way of undisciplined living, neglected the book of the Covenant, and turned quickly away to indulge in the evil, forbidden practices of Canaan.

GOD’S COMPASSION FOR HIS PEOPLE.

From time to time, out of sheer pity for
God raised up Judges to deliver the humiliated people.

Israel had to learn to return to the LORD THEIR GOD, their TRUE GOD, their FIRST LOVE, and put their steadfast faith in this GOD.

These Judges were sent to reveal to Israel the cause and results of going their own way, and why they had failed.

Mainly … COMPROMISE!
How did it begin?

In the opening chapters, we are told that now the nine and a half tribes that had settled in Canaan did not drive out the Canaanites, as God commanded!

The other two and a half tribes, sadly, chose to settle in Gilead, on the eastern side of the Jordan River. This happened six times in the book of Judges, where the Canaanites were intermarrying with God’s people.

Compromise had to happen!

How much influence do your unsaved friends have on you?

You need to read! Mark! Learn and inwardly digest these experiences of Israel, and learn that sin, though pleasant at first, “never” finishes that way!

Sin brings failure upon yourself and upon your family. You must repent and change your ways!

It is never too late!

God is your Father, and you are meant to obey Him for your own good!
You are to Serve the Living Lord.

“WATCH AND PRAY!
SO YOU WILL NOT ENTER INTO TEMPTATION.”

There are so-called Christians who are stooping to the lowest behaviour, yet have the appearance of being Super Spiritual. They are fakes! Choose your friends wisely.

LET THE HOLY SPIRIT BE YOUR GUIDE ..

AND THE WORD OF GOD BE YOUR STANDARD.

GOD GIVES US MANY PRIVILEGES
BUT NEVER THE PRIVILEGE
TO SIN!

Let us pause for a moment and think about your friendship with those who are not saved. What is your relationship like?

Do you have to compromise your standards to fit in?

Do you miss attending church? How about your language? Your appearance? Your Christian standards of morality? You cannot have one foot in Christianity and another in the world. It does not work!

Joshua said to Israel, “Choose you this day who you will serve, as for me and my house.
We will serve the Lord.”

Amen.

10. THE BOOK OF JOSHUA. DEATH OF JOSHUA.

JOSHUA is now aged. His words to Israel reveal the concern of his 💓 Heart.

For some years now, Israel had been waiting for the rest and plenty of Canaan.

BUT WHAT OF THE FUTURE?

It all depended upon whether Israel would be faithful to God.
Joshua felt apprehensive, as in his parting words, he refers to the idolatrous nations still left in Canaan.
He knew the snare they would be to Israel and prescribed three safeguards for their own protection.

(1) There must be a brave adherence to God’s Word.

(2) They must vigilantly continue to separate themselves from all Canaanite idolatrous practices and lifestyle.

(3) They must cleave unto the Lord with a real, fervent love.

This is the same for us today ..

To receive the fullness of His blessing ..

You must be living close to God by reading the Word of God and being totally obedient to it.

We must constantly separate ourselves from all worldly influences.

Romans 12:1,2.

Also, we MUST as Jesus said …”LOVE THE LORD WITH ‘ALL’ OUR HEART, SOUL, AND MIND.”

In the words of 1 John 3, he states…
“HIS COMMANDMENTS ARE NOT GREVIOUS.”

You will find the spiritual blessing of ..
PEACE AND JOY IN THE HOLY SPIRIT AND…

THE TREASURE THAT THE WORLD CANNOT GIVE … NOR CAN IT BE TAKEN AWAY!

IN CHRIST, YOU ARE ‘TOTALLY BLESSED’!

Continue your journey through faith and obedience.

You will live your life in YOUR PROMISED LAND AND FEEL SECURE IN HIS LOVE AND PROVISION FOR YOU!

THEN HE CAN POUR OUT HIS GOODNESS UPON YOU AND BLESS YOU! (God’s favour and protection)

“The Lord had given to Israel all the land He had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there.”

“And the Lord gave them rest on every side,
just as He had promised their ancestors.
None of their enemies could stand against them, for the Lord helped them to conquer all their foes.”

Joshua 21 43-44.

This was a rest not only from their labours and their wandering, but a rest in the sense that the people could live in peace without fear of attack from their enemies.

But God also has a special rest in store for Him… indeed, which is yet to come.

See Hebrews 4:8,9.

This rest is found in Jesus Christ, the greater Joshua, who has achieved the victory in His life and in his death, so we can rest in His finished work of Salvation.

Then we are ushered into the presence of Almighty God in our literal Land of Promise, which is magnificent in splendour, and we will be safe from all our enemies. (Satan and his hordes.)

GLORY TO GOD!!

Joshua 24:29
In the final chapter of the book of Joshua, we read that Joshua, the son of Nun, the loyal and faithful servant of the Lord, died at the age of 110 and was buried in the Promised Land.

The great legacy he left was a reminder that Israel must listen and obey God’s words spoken unto them. The Lord said:

I TOOK, I GAVE, I SENT, I BROUGHT.
See verses 3-13. Jehovah was the One who initiated the journey through Abraham and his sons, as well as through Moses and Joshua.

Now, in our time, all things are under the LORDSHIP OF CHRIST!

So we must be…

Obedient to His Word.

Spread the Gospel of Grace.

Be Spirit-led.

Live as Christ would live.

Looking to His coming again.

To be counted worthy of our calling.

“LORD, WE SURRENDER OUR ALL TO YOU.

Amen.

9. THE BOOK OF JOSHUA.

ISRAEL DECEIVED

GUILE OF GIBEON.

Here, we notice in this passage, the wiles of Satan. His schemes to deceive Joshua and the leaders of Israel.

Joshua Chapter 9.

The Gibeonites,

Israel’s forbidden enemies decided that they could not stand against the Power of the Israelite people. So they resorted to deception. They dressed themselves in dirty, old, worn-out clothes and shoes to present themselves as travellers from a distant land.

Their bread was old and mouldy, and their food inedible.
They were actually their ‘Next door’ neighbours! Living only three days’ journey away (15 miles).

They claimed, “We have come from a very fa-a-ar country, because of the name of JEHOVAH your GOD.”

“We have heard the fame of Him and all that He did in Egypt, so make a Covenant with us.

The Gibeonites were so clever and so convincing was their disguise, so reasonable the story, so reverent toward God, and so pitiful their plight that:

ISRAEL’S COMPASSION OVERFLOWED.

Being Canaanites, they were under a curse, so Israel should not befriend or make a Covenant with them.
Their actions were to emotionally blackmail Israel into deceiving them. Yet Israel already knew that God had commanded against such an alliance. The command from God was precise.

He said to Israel that there were to be no deviations from His commandments. Deviation was disobedience.

Have you been deceived like that?

We should not judge someone based on their appearance, but take the time to get to know their heart.

Then read the Word of God for His wisdom and discernment for the next steps

There are just some people you cannot trust!

Satan is an Angel of Light.

He seduced Eve! He deceived Jacob! And now a whole nation!

So Israel made an emotional decision that had far-reaching consequences for both Israel and the Gibeonites.

It only took three days for the trickery to be exposed. The most significant aspect of this incident is that no one sought counsel from the Lord.

“No one said to the Lord…“What do you think about these people? What do you want us to do with them?”

Actually, as I previously said, God had already told them,

“DO NOT MINGLE WITH THEM, OR YOU WILL INTERMARRY WITH THEM, OR THEY WILL TURN YOUR HEARTS AWAY FROM THE LORD YOUR GOD.”

Today, we can access the POWER of the HOLY SPIRIT against the giants of the demons of destruction. Also, we claim the BLOOD OF JESUS over the evil one. Then speak the word of our TESTIMONY to defeat him, even unto death.

See Revelation 12:11.

You need not be deceived. Seek the ‘Guidance‘ of God to understand what the evil one is capable of doing.
One of Satan’s weapons is… compromise, amongst others.

Christian, you also are warned not to be unequally joined in a relationship with an unbeliever. That means in friendships, marriages, and business deals. Light cannot dwell with darkness, and Satan cannot partner with Jesus.

We need to know that Satan’s subtle wiles are more dangerous than his open attacks.

He is ‘more dangerous’ as an “Angel of Light” than a “Roaring Lion.” We must resist him in THE NAME OF JESUS!

Ephesians chapter 6:10-18 for instructions on how you can combat the wiles of satan.

We are urged to put on the. Whole Armour of God.

We need to refer to God about everything. It is safer, less embarrassing, and fail-proof!

MAY GOD BLESS AND PROTECT YOU!

Here is a prayer you can pray for extra protection.

Amen.

8. THE BOOK OF JOSHUA.

ACHAN’S SIN.

THE CONQUEST OF AI.

During the great battle of Jericho, there was one man, one disobedient and deceitful man. The only man who had in his mind that he would profit from this war.

Achan” looked,” and he “saw”… then he “took!”

He stole the things that were devoted to destruction by God. He was the only person who kept the accursed things for himself.

What accursed thing do you have hidden away in your life?

Is it a Habit that you have chained to your body, such as Pornography, Alcohol, Drugs or a Secret Lover? When you repent, you can be forgiven, but the consequences still remain because no man sins unto himself.

Doing this, little did Achan know, that he accrued a curse upon himself and his family, and the whole nation of Israel.

See Chapter 6:1,19-26.

The gold and silver he took belonged to God and were devoted to the treasury of the Lord.

The stunning Babylonian garment represented Babylonia with all of its sinful practices. It represented adultery, idolatry, demonic worship, witchcraft and many other heathen practices.

Achan had broken the tenth commandment.
When he did confess, he said, “I wanted them so much.”

He knew the commandment that said..

“YOU SHALL NOT COVET.”

The spirit behind his need to ‘get rich quick’ was the seductive Spirit. “Covetousness”
If you have this spirit driving you to dishonesty, you need to repent, ask God forgiveness and through the Blood of Jesus break it off your life. Then return what you have stolen.

This reminds me of Ananias and Saphira in the book of Acts, who committed the same trespass.

Acts 5:1-3.

This sin cost them their own lives. God himself judged them, and they died at His own Hand. In the Church! Read it!

This is so sad, as this couple were experiencing the outpouring of God’s blessings financially, but they could not wait!

The same applies to Achan; Israel was promised by God that they would have houses full of beautiful things that were not their own.

These were …

The wonderful land that God promised, luscious fruit trees, green pasture, flocks of sheep, cattle that were fat and well-bred.. Yet Achan couldn’t wait!

THE WAGES OF SIN.
As the Scriptures say, “No man sins unto himself.” As previously mentioned, there are consequences of unconfessed sin.

Read chapter 7:3-4.

The battle of Jericho so easily won seemed to cause complacency and some ‘overconfidence’ in Joshua and his leaders.

Joshua did not consult with God before he sent a small contingent of troops to attack the city of Ai.
The conquest seemed easy.

Ai’s troops were expectant and ready for Israel’s attack and chased, all 3,000 of them as far as the distant quarries and 36 men were killed.

The hearts of Israel melted, and courage trickled away as water melts ice in the warmth of the sun. Everyone became discouraged, including Joshua, and they all blamed God for the defeat.

Israel’s leaders tore their clothes and threw dust on their heads! (a typical gesture of grief and despair) Then fell on their faces before the Ark of God.

Joshua was at a loss for what to do next. He was worried about what their neighbours, the Canaanites, would do once they heard of Israel’s defeat by Ai.
God’s promises and His Name were now at stake.

See Numbers 14:13-1.

GOD’S ANSWER TO JOSHUA WAS,

“GET UP, JOSHUA !”

It was abrupt, stern, and outwardly unsympathetic.

Joshua needed to act swiftly and decisively.

Achan’s sin had made all Israel liable to destruction.
Can you understand how your sin affects your family and those close to you? Think about the verse that warns …

“BE SURE YOUR SIN WILL FIND YOU OUT.”

Num 32:23. You cannot hide it. God sees all! He knows your very thoughts.

Read how God instructed Joshua to search for the offender and reveal to all Israel who it was.

See Chapter 7:14-26.

Joshua followed God’s instructions by a process of elimination.

ACHAN WAS THE MAN!!

Joshua looked at Achan, but Achan kept his head bowed.

“Tell me, and give praise to the Lord, what have you done, hide it no more.”

Achan answered Joshua, “Indeed, I have sinned against the Lord,” and confessed his sin.

“I SAW!” “I COVETED!” “I TOOK!” “I HID!”

They are hidden underground in my tent.”

God had not been angry without reason.

His people must be holy.

Trifling with things that belonged to Him reveals rebellion against God Himself, and such sin always brings trouble upon God’s people. The name of the valley was “Achor”, meaning “trouble”.

HIS PUNISHMENT.

Achan, his wife, family, and everything he possessed, including the stolen goods, were judged and destroyed. Israel stoned them with stones and burnt them with fire, and they were buried in the valley of Achor.

Then the Lord was no longer angry with Israel, and He gave Joshua a strategy for war, which led to a complete victory over Ai and its utter destruction.

Paul the Apostle warns us not to allow sin to rule in our mortal bodies. Sin is a cancer that eats away at your life and brings spiritual death, so let’s confess our sins to Jesus Christ, because…

“He is Faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness” He was the only one who could pay the price for sin.
I John 1:9.

How do you stand before a Holy God?

Pray… “Father God, I am a sinner, and I cannot hide this any longer. Please forgive me, and help me become the person you have designed me to be.

Please fill me with the Holy Spirit and lead me into the paths of righteousness. I pray this in the Name of the Lord Jesus.”

Amen.

7. THE BOOK OF JOSHUA

THE DEFEAT OF JERICHO… FROM THE ENEMY’S PERSPECTIVE.

The discovery of Israel’s spies, who had come and gone from Jericho, caused much fear to come upon the people and their King.

What would happen next? No one knew!

So the king of Jericho ordered the gates to be shut and barred with timber.
Citizens, farmers, and soldiers were all safely inside. Sheep, goats, cattle and fresh barley were plenteous. All types of weapons were at their disposal.
Jericho was ready for either war or a long siege.
Yes, Jericho was ready—and would endure!

The King was restless, and he paced the wall all night. He constantly lifted up his voice to Asherah, the mother of seventy gods and Baal, consort of El.
He wondered in his heart, “Would Asherah protect them from the fury of the desert breed, the Israelites who had come from Egypt and had conquered every enemy she met?”

At dawn, the sky slowly turned into brilliant daylight, with colours of red, orange, and yellow, and the sun appeared upon the horizon in all its glory.

The citizens of Jericho rose to wash, eat and make ready for what may happen.
On the wall, the King and his soldiers, who were keeping watch, heard a soft, rhythmic beating —a pulsing of the earth. He could feel it in his bones.

Then, on the horizon, he could see a cloud billowing from the distant earth.
He shouted, “IS THIS ISRAEL ?”
“YES, GET READY!” Warriors rushed to their allotted posts.
Here they come,” one man sounded the alarm. So Jericho made herself ready.

Israel came toward them in perfect order, but they did not come too close. Then they suddenly turned parallel to the city wall. Not “one” soldier looked at the city as they were commanded to gaze straight ahead and …
NOT “ONE” PERSON OF ISRAEL SPOKE “A “WORD!!

( I think that this was the first time that Israel completely obeyed God!)

Israel marched around the city in a file. They were calm, confident and controlled. The only sound Jericho heard was the marching feet and the shrill of trumpets that tore the air apart.

Jericho shivered in fear!

They could see the Ark of God carried by their priests, two before and two after. It was a box of brilliant gold that represented Israel’s God.

“The True and Living God “, The God who wasMighty in Battle.”

Once the circumference was completed, Israel turned back to Gilgal. This happened for six days. On the seventh day, Israel circled the city, not just once but seven times, from dawn to dusk.

Then SUDDENLY!

There was the sound of Ram’s horns again. But this time, it rose to the shrieking of eagles.
Then Israel sounded their battle cry and began to rush toward the city.

Then the walls of Jericho began to shudder, and when Israel was about an arrow shot away, they cracked at every joint, even at the fortified areas and collapsed, killing many people below.

Every fighting soldier of Israel ran straight before him, and TOOK THE CITY!

They utterly destroyed the city and all that was in it. Men, women, young and old, all with the edge of the sword. Every living animal was slaughtered, and Jericho was burnt with fire.

Except!! One family, the family of Rahab, her house unscathed, stood firm and tall amongst the rubble. She and her family were rescued as promised by Israel.

Christian, we are also commanded to fight the good fight with all our might. We are to fight the fight of FAITH,

1 Tim 6:12.

We war against principalities of evil, against the deadly enemy of our souls, satan!

Through Jesus, we have the Power and the authority over Satan and his hordes.

Put on the whole ARMOUR of God. Eph 6:10-18.
Then, having done all, STAND !!

Now see the SALVATION OF THE LORD…

WATCH YOUR JERICHO WALLS COME TUMBLING DOWN!!

The walls of worry, fear and depression.

The walls of anger, bitterness and resentment.

The walls of shame, guilt and blame.

Every wall in your life is reduced to rubble.

Now allow the WIND OF THE SPIRIT to blow the dust away!!

THEN YOU CAN WALK IN VICTORY.

Amen.

6. THE BOOK OF JOSHUA. The Victory of Faith.

THE REWARDS OF FAITH.

Let’s look once more as the walls of Jericho come crumbling down under the Mighty Hand of God.

THE FALL OF JERICHO.

This conquest shows us how faith ..

Works! Waits! and Wins!
Faith ascertained the Will and the Word of the Lord.

FAITH’S rule of action is to obey that WILL and the WORD implicitly; then you can count it as good as done.

Maybe you have been praying for something for a long time, and you think that God has not heard your prayers.
Then I suggest that you start ‘giving thanks’ for the answer instead. Put your faith into action.

Faith sees it done! Faith principles of action cut right across natural reason.

Natural reason deems it useless to watch Israel winding around and around the city walls to the blowing of ram’s horns.

Yet with the Spiritual inner Wisdom, nothing could be wiser than to do just what God Himself directed, however strange it may seem!

Here, we see God and Man in cooperation for the pulling down of Satan’s strongholds.

With one Blow of the trumpet, and a Mighty shout from Israel…

The city was laid low,

without one casualty in Israel!

This is triumph indeed!

Are you currently wanting to step out in faith and take on a new venture or calling?

Cooperate with God, you will triumph.
And then you will enter your land of blessing.

What are some of the prayers for which you have been praying for such a long time, and there seems to be no answer?

Allow me to suggest that you pray Prophetic prayers. Pray the Word of Truth into that situation. Pray what God has already spoken! Then you will see answers to your prayers.

Maybe you have been pleading for ages for a loved one to be saved.

It may be a long-term illness, and you’re growing tired and weary of asking Him to heal you over and over again.

Thank Him that Jesus took all your sicknesses, and by His stripes, you are (were) healed! You also must take authority against it. Using the Name and Blood of Jesus.

Perhaps it’s that prodigal son or daughter who has wandered far from God, and you worry, as things seem to be getting worse.

Is it an addiction that has entrapped you?

Are these your walls of Jericho?

Cross your Jordan, and leave fear and unbelief behind you on the riverbed.
Cast off unforgiveness, bitterness and resentment and don’t build a memorial unto them.

Forgive and forget all the hurts, then walk out of the river of the past as ‘More than a Conqueror’ through Jesus Christ our Lord, giving thanks to the Lord that He has answered your cries.

HE WILL BREAK DOWN THE WALLS OF JERICHO IN YOUR LIFE!!

Amen.

5. THE BOOK OF JOSHUA.

RAHAB’S. DELIVERANCE.

JERICHO.
Jericho was a high-walled city in the path that Israel had to journey. This city was impenetrable (meaning it was impossible to pass through or enter).

Yet, Joshua was a mighty warrior of faith, and God had promised him success wherever his foot would tread.

Israel crossed the Red Sea, dry-shod, and they were promised by God that every enemy would fall before them.

Chapter 1:4-9. The wall of Jericho was doubled. Two walls inside the other, connected by intermediate stones, and a strong lattice of timber.
Previous Regents had permitted the building of rooms between the walls. The poorest of people lived there, outcasts and whores.

THE GATE OF JERICHO. Medium-sized towns, like Jericho, had one main gate, made of two massive doors, each made of tough wood reinforced with bronze.

The gates were closed and barred for the night, reopening in the morning.

By immediately shutting the gates after the pursuers departed, the authorities took a sensible precaution. If the spies were still in the city and had not left the house as Rahab had implied, they might be exposed during the night.

RAHAB DECLARES HER FAITH.

1. “The Lord had made a dry path for Israel across the Red Sea, and had parted its waters for them.”

Ex 14:21-28.2. “Israel had defeated Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites and Bashan.” Num 21:2-35.
“These kings were utterly destroyed.

“Rahab declared her faith in the Lord God Jehovah, ‘before’ she experienced her own deliverance. God knew her heart, and despite her immorality, she was chosen to become a part of God’s people.

Immorality in your past doesn’t stop God from saving you and using you in His Eternal purposes. This is a picture of His wonderful Grace.

So, dear reader, no matter what sin you have committed or are still committing, know His forgiveness and step into your foreordained destiny that God has previously planned for you.

God, through Jesus Christ, loves you. He will receive you into His family forever. You need to repent of your sins, believe that He shed His Precious blood on the cross of Calvary to Save and deliver you, and that He rose again from the dead on the third day.

Ask him to save you now!

In Romans chapter 8:1,2,

“So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. For the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.”

Although the people of Canaan incurred God’s judgment, Rahab’s action of faith in helping the spies, by hiding them on her flat roof, covering them with flax, and letting them down on the outside wall, brought her and her family into the safety of the Israelite camp.

Her request to the spies was also filled with words of faith. She said,

When” Jericho is taken, not “if” Jericho is taken. Her faith was founded upon the promises of God.

See Hebrews 11:21.3. She continued her declaration by saying,
“I know God has given you all the land. And, “Your terror has fallen upon us.”

In this book of Joshua, the two spies kept their promise to spare her and her family and adopt her as their own.

She continues.“There is no more courage in any man of Jericho.
Because the Lord your God is God in Heaven above and earth beneath.”

God had given Jericho into the hands of Israel, and Rahab knew it, believed in it, and foresaw their defeat.

Have a look ahead at chapter 23:10 and read the last words of Joshua, now ancient and well stricken with age.

He prophesied,

“ONE MAN SHALL CHASE A THOUSAND, FOR THE LORD YOUR GOD WILL FIGHT FOR YOU, AS HE HAS PROMISED YOU.”

That’s what happened at the battle of Jericho.
Rahab was saved from utter destruction, along with her entire family.

The courage of Paul and Silas.

This reminds me of the account in the Book of Acts, where Paul and Silas were thrown into prison after being beaten for the cause of the Gospel.

And how God fought for them by using an earthquake to open the prison doors, loosen their shackles, and set them free.

The jailer wanted to know how to be saved. They answered ..

“BELIEVE IN THE LORD JESUS AND YOU WILL BE SAVED .. AND YOUR HOUSE” (His family)

AND THEY WERE SAVED, AND REJOICED GREATLY !!

Dear friend, ARE YOU SAVED? You answer, “NO, NOT YET?”

Then you must believe in the Lord Jesus to be saved!
REPENT OF YOUR SIN .. THEN ASK JESUS TO SAVE YOU. NOW CLAIM YOUR WHOLE FAMILY FOR JESUS!!

Pray. “Lord, I am a sinner and repent of my sin. Thank you for dying for me and shedding your blood. Come into my life and be my Lord.”

( Name each person in your family individually and claim them for Jesus.)

Amen.

4. THE BOOK JOSHUA.

VICTORY OVER JERICHO.

In the book of Joshua, see Israel…

1. ENTERING THE LAND OF PROMISE!

2. OVERCOMING THEIR ENEMIES!

3. OCCUPYING THE LAND.

This journey for Israel in the book of Joshua, as we have previously noticed, is called…

THE VICTORY OF FAITH’

JOSHUA was commissioned by God to take the place of Moses, the Friend of God, as leader of Israel.

Faith refuses to act on mere human reasoning, but once it is satisfied that God has spoken, it asks nothing more. For there can be no Higher Authority than that, and no Higher Reason to obey.

True faith always works on the principle shown to us in…

Hebrews 13:5,6.

“HE HAS SAID … SO WE MAY SAY!”

LET’S LOOK at the Fall of Jericho. This conquest shows us how,
FAITH WORKS, WAITS and WINS a WAR.

Faith ascertained the Will and the Word; then faith’s word of action is to obey that Word implicitly.

You rely on that Word and count the thing as ‘being done,’ then give thanks in anticipation.

The ISRAELITES ACTUALLY GAVE THEIR SHOUT OF VICTORY, BEFORE THE WALLS CAME CRASHING DOWN!

Maybe you have been praying for something for a long time and think that God has not heard your prayers.

Then I suggest that you start giving thanks for the answers, instead of asking over and over again. Faith sees it done! You need not stop praying… You approach it from a different angle.

Faith’s principle of ACTION cuts right across REASON!
Of Natural Reason!!

Natural Reason deems it useless to watch Israel winding around and around the city walls, to the blowing of ram’s horns.

Yet the Spiritual inner Wisdom says, “Nothing could be Wiser than to do, just what GOD HIMSELF HAS DIRECTED, however ‘strange’ it may seem!”

Here, we see God and Man in Cooperation for the PULLING DOWN of THE STRONGHOLDS OF SATAN.

With one blow of the trumpet and a Mighty Shout from Israel, the city was laid low with not one Casualty from Israel.

Today, we wait for the brilliant sound of the last trump announcing the second coming of our Lord Jesus to this earth. Are you ready?

This is TRIUMPH INDEED!!

Are you currently wanting to step out in faith and take on a new venture or calling? Then you need to …
Cooperate with God and you will triumph by faith.

THEN YOU ‘LL FIND YOUR LAND OF PROMISED BLESSING!!

The apostle Paul understood that possessing your possessions is an ongoing battle, and effort and perseverance are required to truly possess all that God has for you.

But Paul also knew that his Joshua (Jesus) would lead him into victory.

Philippians 3:12-14.

Paul writes,
“I press on to possess that perfection which Christ Jesus first possessed me.”

“No, and dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing:”

Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race, and receive the heavenly Prize which God, through Jesus Christ, is calling us.”

Joshua, the son of Nun, now Israel’s leader and Commander, had circumcised the people, every male that was born in the wilderness, according to the covenant.

Next, he ordered the people to keep the Passover.

The next day, the manna ceased, and Israel ate the produce of the land; it was a day of rejoicing for everyone.

Looming before him, Joshua could see the enormous walls of Jericho. He thought, How will Israel breach these walls?

Then he called to mind the crossing of the Red Sea dry-shod.

The mighty deliverance from Egypt.

And when Israel crossed the River Jordan.

Recalling these mighty acts, the peace of God filled his heart and mind. He now knew that Almighty God would deliver the city into the hands of Israel.

So you can face an uncertain future in a very uncertain World and know that indeed…

The LORD will FIGHT FOR YOU!!

BE OF GOOD COURAGE.

Amen.

3. THE BOOK OF JOSHUA. Israel Takes the Land.

THE VICTORY OF JOSHUA.
There seem to be some contradictory statements concerning the taking of the land.

In Chapter 11:23, we read that “JOSHUA TOOK THE WHOLE LAND ACCORDING TO ALL THE LORD SAID TO MOSES.”

Yet in Chapter 13:1,

God says, “There remains very much land to be possessed.” These are two aspects of one situation, and both are true.

The Key Cities were conquered by Israel, but there is still much land to be taken. This was the task of Individual tribes to destroy. It was up to them to see that there was victory to the last detail.

It is the same with us; Satan and his powers were destroyed at Calvary, and as Christians,
We can apply that victory to our lives and make it so.

“WE ARE SEATED WITH CHRIST IN HEAVENLY PLACES ABOVE ALL PRINCIPALITIES AND POWERS.”

Ephesians 2:6.

Yet, you must apply that victory, carrying it through your life and practical day-to-day living until you win the final victory.

Yes, the whole land was ‘taken,’ yet there remained very much Land to be ‘possessed,’ so we see a difference between,

INHERITANCE and its

POSSESSION.

You may have slain some giants in your life, but you must possess your possessions by faith, always relying on His Word.

In this first chapter, we have a list of incomplete conquests of the tribes in Canaan. At least seven of them failed to drive out their Canaanite enemies.

If you do not master EVIL immediately, you will have constant battles and often be defeated.

It is foolish to take half measures against sin. Israel had allowed a ‘quarter’ of the foe to remain and live with them.

COMPROMISE WITH THE ENEMY.

And soon, the compromises are revealed. Israel mixes with them, they intermarry, and they bow down to their idols.

(Baal and Ashteroth.) They made military leagues with them. They forsook God’s ways.
God sent Judges to deliver them from oppression and vexation.
But as soon as that judge was dead.

“THEY CORRUPTED THEMSELVES MORE THAN THEIR FATHERS.”
Chapter 13:18,19.

Let us mark this well in our minds.

It is always true that sin has its consequences if we continue in it.

Repentance and Salvation are similarly joined.

“GOD IS NOT WILLING THAT ANYONE SHOULD PERISH, BUT THAT ALL MEN SHOULD COME TO REPENTANCE.”

He always offers salvation. Let go of that thing or person dragging you back into the World.

You won’t be sorry!

WHAT IS THAT THING?

Amen.
