No 11. THE SECOND BOOK OF KINGS.

THE BOOK OF THE DISPERSION.

The great empires of East Assyria, Babylon, and Persia will almost exclusively occupy our attention. They all alike exercised the most significant influence upon the destiny of ancient Israel.

In the records of those great World Kingdoms, the confirmations are so numerous and so convincing that the critics have to confess that here at least,

THE BIBLE IS RECOGNISED AS HISTORY!

The critic must retire confounded and ashamed.

Israel, at this point, has become steeped in infidelity and moral degradation until, finally, the measure of their wickedness becomes full, and judgment falls upon them.

Pitiless foes wreak havoc and vengeance upon them and drag them from their land into the land of captivity. In chapter 25, we see Jerusalem sacked, the Temple burnt, and the Southern Kingdom (Judah) entering detention, from which only a remnant returned.

Though the captivities were a hundred years apart, they are associated together as one captivity called,

THE DISPERSION.

We cannot read the second book of Kings without remembering the words of Solomon’s proverb.

“THE WAY OF THE TRANSGRESSOR IS HARD”

Then Paul’s words, “THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH.”

It is demonstrated nationally and declared justice for all to see and notice. SINNING despite warning brings RUIN without REMEDY.

Abused privileges bring increased PENALTIES.

The deeper the GUILT, the heavier the STROKE.

PEOPLE MAY RESIST CORRECTION, BUT THEY CAN NOT ESCAPE RETRIBUTION.

Keep this verse ever before your eyes,

“WHATSOEVER A MAN SHALL SOW, (or a nation) THAT WHICH HE SHALL ALSO REAP.”

In 2nd Kings, we see Israel hauled through the streets behind the chariot wheels of their heathen conquerors; we cannot indeed fail to see that the central message of this book is that:

WILLFUL SIN BRINGS A WOEFUL END!

We note that in the second book of Kings, 17 Kings rule for 250 years (over the ten tribes of Israel). Judah, who had only 10 Kings, continued for 390 years from when they split from Israel.

EACH KING, CHARACTERIZED BY THE STANDARD SET BY KING DAVID, FELL SHORT.

Speaking of Solomon: “His heart was not perfect before the Lord, as David, his father. 1 Kings. 11:4.

Read about King Asa.

1 King 25:11.

“Asa did not do that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, as did David his father.”

Despite his sins, which marred his life, David’s trust in God, his general Integrity and his zeal for Divine honor, and his responsibility as a king under God made him be called,

“A MAN AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART”

And as the pattern for those who would succeed him. Through many troubled times, God preserved David’s line of Kings. Come with me into the lives of those whom God protected to carry out His Will for Israel and, finally, down to us.

1. Jehosheba, the daughter of Jehoram, saved JOASH. 2 Kings 11: 1-3.

God intervened and healed Hezekiah when he was sick unto death. 2 Kings 20: 1-10.

3. God continued to preserve the line through Nathan the Prophet.

4. After the Captivity, the line continues with Zerubbabel, under whose leadership they rebuilt the temple. Zerubbabel preserved the genealogical line of David down to the birth of JESUS CHRIST THE LORD.

Who is David’s Son in whom the Davidic line is NEVER ENDING, EVERLASTING, CONSTANTLY, NEVER TO BE INTERRUPTED!

Jesus, by His second coming, will set up David’s throne on this earth in the city of Jerusalem in fulfillment of the Covenant promise made with David by God long ago.

He is the true HEIR according to the Scriptures in both the OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS!

JESUS IS KING! JESUS IS KING! TRUE KING OF ISRAEL;

DAVID’S GREAT-SON; HOPE OF THE FATHERS;

HEIR TO THE THRONE;

LION OF JUDAH;

LAMB THAT WAS SLAIN;

TRUE KING OF ISRAEL;

YET HE SHALL REIGN.

JESUS IS KING! JESUS IS KING!

….. J S Baxter.

IS JESUS THE KING OF YOUR LIFE?

You must confess Him as Lord of your spirit, soul, and body. Allow him to rule in every area of your life. It will help if you put aside your selfish ways. Paul preached in the book of Galatians.

“MY OLD SELF IS CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST.”

Choose Right!

“IT IS NO LONGER THAT I LIVE, BUT CHRIST THAT LIVES IN ME.”

Galatians 2:20.

Yes, we must reckon (count) ourselves dead indeed unto sin and alive unto Christ.

With Paul, we declare: “I DIE DAILY” TO MY SELFISH WAYS.”

The promise of a victorious life will follow when you submit to Christ’s Lordship.

“KING OF MY LIFE, I CROWN HIM NOW, THINE THE GLORY BE. MAKE MY LIFE A LIVING SACRIFICE, CRUCIFIED FOR THEE.”

Amen.

4. THE BOOK OF RUTH.

A MARRIAGE MADE IN HEAVEN.

“THE WEDDING OF BOAZ AND RUTH.” Beautiful RUTH, adorned in her Fine White Linen wedding garment (sewn by Naomi, of course), made her way to handsome Boaz’s side. A stunning couple indeed!

This part is so Romantic! It was an outdoor celebration to accommodate the whole town, and they were there! Filling the air with Joy and excitement!

Naomi was beside herself with pure joy at the Goodness of God. Yes,

THE LORD GOD HAD JOINED THEM IN MATRIMONY in the tenderest of love, yet following Jewish tradition and requirements of the Law.

Ruth was now “GRAFTED IN” to GOD’S PEOPLE. Her marriage to Boaz signifies.GOD’S MERCY and GRACE! This story BEGAN with famine, death, and so much grief and ENDED with FULLNESS, NEW LIFE, and much rejoicing!

So Ruth and Boaz lived happily joined together by God.

Of course we cannot forget to mention…

THE BABY!!

Scripture tells us, “Boaz took Ruth as his wife, and went in unto her ( made sexual love), and the Lord caused her to conceive, and she bore him a son.”

Oh, how precious 💞 is that.

He was the Father of Jessie…

The Father of King David…

The Ancestor of JESUS CHRIST.

The Saviour of the World. 🌎

This lovely story has its thanks to Naomi, who in a foreign land was able to call forth love and a confession of God like that of RUTH as pure as the 🌹 Rose of Sharon, and led her to know the,

‘TRUE and LIVING LORD.’

Dearest reader… His eyes are upon you! Your END will be better than your BEGINNING!

ADVICE FOR THOSE WHO ARE SINGLE.

“THERE IS HOPE IN THE END… AND YOUR EXPECTATION SHALL NOT CUT OFF (disappointed).”

1. Choose wisely.

2. Be led by the Holy Spirit.

3. Only marry a committed Christian ✝️.

4. Partner with one who loves God and His Word… And obedient to it.

5. A person, with whom you can pray and read the Bible. Rather than just physical attraction.

6. And take time to get to know each other.

7. Choose one who has a servant’s heart and sweet spirit, and possesses a sense of humour.

8. Love each other with a pure heart fervently.

So my advice is…

❤️ LOVE GOD.

❤️ LOVE YOURSELF.

❤️ LOVE YOUR GOD-GIVEN MATE THROUGH GOOD AND BAD TIMES, TOTALLY AND ETERNALLY DEPENDENT UPON THE LORD JESUS WHO GAVE HIMSELF FOR YOU.

Then you will enjoy the Promised land He has for you.

I waited for 37 years to meet my God given man…

IT WAS WORTH EVERY MOMENT OF WAITING!!!

RICH BLESSINGS UPON YOU. H.DALZELL.

2. THE BOOK OF RUTH.

NAOMI RETURNS HOME.

ORPHA RETURNS TO MOAB.

TEN YEARS HAVE PASSED. Naomi heard Israel was flourishing and decided to return to her old country. Both daughters-in-law have come to love her and wish to go with her. They have learned that the true God of Israel is faithful to His promises!

Naomi refused their wishes, so Orpha decided to retrace her steps back to the land of Moab to find safety and security in her parents’ home and perhaps new love. Ruth clung to Naomi and begged her not to send her away, but only permit death to part them. There were, of course, many tears shed between them (see chapter 1:16). With tears flowing freely from her eyes, Ruth said to her dear mother-in-law,

“Please don’t ask me to leave you,  your people shall be my people and your God shall me my God.”

“Where you travel, I shall travel and where you shall live, I shall live.”

Ruth, had grown to love Naomi and was willing to forgo everything for the widowed Naomi’s sake.

Naomi relented, as she saw that Ruth had embraced the Lord God of Israel! So, both women make the arduous journey back to Israel. An adventure for Ruth; yet Namoni was reliving some problematic memories from her past.

Upon arrival, the whole city was moved because of them. Imagine the buzz, the gossip! “A woman, thought to be deceased, turning up again, would you believe it, accompanied by a heathen!”

Some of Naomi’s friends hardly recognised her, since grief had left its mark upon her beautiful face. “Call me Mara!meaning bitter”, she retorted.

These words that Naomi asked them to speak over her were “death Words”, not “Life Words” They were spoken out of grief and bitterness of soul.

Unbeknown to Naomi,

GOD HAD FOR HER A WONDERFUL FUTURE AND A HOPE.

(Jeremiah 29:11)

Also, a delightful plan, not only for her but, of course, for precious Ruth.

“IN RETURNING AND IN REST SHALL BE YOUR COMFORT”This is a lovely verse for you to personalise. If you have knowingly or unknowingly wandered far from God spiritually, Jesus is waiting to welcome you.

This is a lovely verse for you to personalise. If you have knowingly or unknowingly wandered far from God spiritually, Jesus is waiting to welcome you.

He is so willing to forgive and grant you a fresh start, as if you had never wandered in the first place!

What a wonderful SAVIOUR is JESUS OUR LORD!

Would you like to pray this prayer of repentance?

“I’VE WANDERED FAR AWAY FROM GOD, NOW I’M COMING HOME.

THE PATHS OF SIN TOO LONG I’VE TROD. PLEASE FORGIVE ME.

LORD, I’M COMING HOME.”

COMING HOME, COMING HOME, NEVER MORE TO ROAM.

LORD, I’M COMING HOME.

The Father is waiting with outstretched arms awaiting your homecoming…

Please come home now.

He is patiently waiting just for you.

3. THE BOOK OF RUTH. Ruth Encounters Boaz.

Naomi found that she was quite destitute upon her arrival at home in Jerusalem, even to the point of having no food for herself or Ruth.

So, she reluctantly sent a most willing Ruth out to glean among the untoward reapers working in the fields of grain.

Ruth, a modest, somewhat shy and beautiful woman, was easy prey for the rough reapers, who could easily molest her. Nervously, but bravely, she gleaned alone, well behind the other reapers.
But her protective, loving Father in Heaven had guided her to the part of the field belonging to BOAZ.

I love the way He greeted his reapers.

“The LORD BE WITH YOU,” and they would answer him.

“THE LORD BLESS YOU.”

Shouldn’t we greet each other in the same way?
There is power in a blessing from our lips!
He soon inquires after Ruth, and the men explain who she is.

Boaz is a wealthy Kingsman and an honourable man. He takes real steps to protect her, for the whole Harvest!
Once the harvest is over, an obvious attachment is developing between Ruth and Boaz.

Yet Boaz has not done anything about it,
much to Naomi’s frustration!

Every day, she would ask Ruth, “Has anything happened between the two of you yet?

Ruth would sigh and reply. “No-o-o, not yet.” Then she would run from the house to the fields to avoid any more questions from her mother-in-law.

So, dear Naomi devises a modest plan to discover Boaz’s intentions.
The Jewish Law states: “If a man marries a woman, and he dies, then his Brother must give shelter to his Widow.”

Now, Boaz is Ruth’s

deceased husband’s Brother.

BOAZ IS MALON’S BROTHER!
(How cool is this!)

But there is one complication yet to be considered. There is a nearer Kingsman!
We will need to consider him further in the story.

The story so far:

Under the careful instructions of Naomi, Ruth crept softly into Boaz’s resting place. She had dressed beautifully for the occasion, carefully adorning her soft, long, shiny, flowing hair, and wearing her most expensive Perfume.

@

She was gorgeous!!
She nestled under the corner of his robe… though quiet as a mouse, her 💓 heart was beating (wildly and loudly!) as she was afraid she would awaken him.

Eventually, she settled down inside her mind and, in her calmness, slipped off to sleep. She thought to herself, half smiling… “Praise God, he had some WINE!”

BUT AT MIDNIGHT BOAZ AWOKE… HE SUDDENLY BECAME AWARE… and said, “Oh, there’s a woman at my feet.”

He also could sense a delightful fragrance permeating the air.

STARTLED! he gasped,

“WHO are YOU?”

He could see her form, as it was still quite dark.

At that moment, Ruth revealed herself and shared that he is her King’s man. She looked into his soft, gentle brown eyes and proposed marriage!

No mucking around here!!

He assured her that he would do all that she desired because she is a woman of…

STRENGTH…

WORTH…

BRAVERY…

AND…

CAPABILITY.

(What a lovely man!)

So consenting to her request, he invited her to stay at his feet the rest of the night and to leave while it was still dark.

THEN HE PLACED HIS GARMENT OVER HER HEAD…
This was a confirmation by law that he would take on the role of a Husband.

So, Boaz gave Ruth six measures of Barley, which was a message to Naomi that he would take the appropriate steps toward a legal Marriage.

I can almost see Ruth… Skipping and laughing, and singing praises to Jehovah as she makes her way back home… into the embraces of an expectant, wise Naomi.

They were so elated and excited that they danced in circles, laughed, sang, and cried tears of joy well into the night.

Boaz, without delay, contacts the nearest of kin in the presence of the Elders and Witnesses at the city gate.

Meanwhile, Naomi gave Ruth some good advice:

“SIT STILL, MY DAUGHTER, DO NOTHING” and SEE HOW THE MATTER WILL TURN OUT!”

Ruth 3:18.

This is good advice for us as well. We must learn not to run ahead of God, Read.

Psalm 37:1-6. It is particularly fitting for us today…

TO SIT STILL!

“BE STILL AND KNOW THAT HE IS GOD!”

Psalm 46:10 is another great verse for you to personalise.

Now back to Boaz… The unnamed Kingsman, an anxious and nervous man, was also too afraid that he would suffer the same fate as Mahlon and Chilion (death) if he married a Moabite Woman.

He exclaimed, “I might die!” So he declined!

Boaz forfeited the property, worth $9,700, which had once belonged to Mahlon.
No problem!

As BOAZ was…VERY, RICH! And truly RUTH was his… MOST “PRIZED POSSESSION.”

Dear friend, Jesus is your King and Redeemer. He will restore to you all that was broken, lost, stolen, wasted and unwanted.

ALL HE ASKS FOR IS YOUR TOTAL OBEDIENCE!!

Are you willing to be obedient to Him this day?

Amen.

1. THE BOOK OF RUTH. GRAFTED IN.

This lovely book opens with the words.

“Now it came to pass in the days when the Judges ruled,”

and was written in truly tragic days.

The Book of Ruth is a Priceless Gem found in an unlikely place.
It centres upon Ruth and Boaz and is quite a contrast to the book of Judges.

Amidst moral deterioration, the story of Ruth conveys noble love and godly Chivalry.

She was a … “GLORIOUS ROSE🌹BLOOMING IN AN ARID DESERT.”

Now into our story… We learn of a young Moabite woman, now widowed, who sacrificed herself for her Hebrew Mother-in-law, Naomi.

It is a true story. The individuals mentioned are found in Jewish Genealogical records.
We also see a Moabite connection in the Genealogy of King David.

This book is devoted to a woman named Ruth.

Her book is a Love Story.
Incredibly, it is not about romantic love between Ruth and Boaz in romantic terms, but you sense that love is blossoming.

It is a Love of a “Woman for a Woman.” It’s the story of a young wife’s passionate and devoted love for her MOTHER-IN-LAW!
(it still happens!)

It is based on the truth that Christ has made Himself of every Nation, people of pure and unselfish love for Himself! Which is acceptable in the sight of God. It invites anyone to come and put their trust under the wings of Jehovah. That blessing is not only for the Jew but for the Gentile alike.

THE STORY…
There was a severe famine in the land, and Naomi’s husband, Elimelech, sought a temporary residence in Moab. He took his wife Naomi and their two sons with him:
Mahlon, meaning (Invalid)
and Chilion (sick and pining)

It was not a good decision, as the father and both his sons died in the Land of Moab and never returned to the Covenant Land of Israel.
The two young men had married Moabite women, forbidden by Jewish Law.

See Deuteronomy. Chapter Three, following…

What can we learn from the story so far?

Sometimes we make decisions based on what is convenient for us, or easier at the moment, instead of seeking…

THE LORD AS TO WHAT IS RIGHT!

You can ask yourself in your difficult situation,

“WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?”

Not always does this workout, and the results are tragic, when we choose to do things without consulting the Lord.

We, as Christians, would be wise to live by God’s Word, which has been given to us.

We are BLESSED if we…as Ruth and Naomi were blessed because they were obedient to the Lord.

“WALK NOT IN THE COUNSEL OF THE UNGODLY.”
“NOR STAND IN THE WAY OF SINNERS,” NOR SIT IN THE SEAT OF THE SCORNFUL,”

Read the whole Psalm… It will encourage you.

Psalm 2:1-6.

Yes, the Word of God should be our chief delight, our path of obedience, for when we delight in Him and His wonderful promises.

“We shall have the desires of our ❤️ heart.”

Psalm 37:4.

“Commit your way unto the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. ”

.❤️

When you are without God in your life, you are without hope in this world, 🌎 and for your future.

So many people are dissatisfied with life, disillusioned, and in despair.
They have no aspirations or plans to work toward. Bored, sick, and tired, and they glumly say:

“What will be, will be. “Yawn!”

A LIFE LIVED IN THE WILL OF GOD IS…

EXCITING!

SATISFYING!

PROSPEROUS!

HEALTHY!

STRONG!

Look at 3 JOHN 2.

“BELOVED, I WISH ABOVE ALL THINGS THAT YOU WILL PROSPER AND BE IN HEALTH, EVEN AS YOUR SOUL PROSPERS.”

Let us not choose to do what is convenient at the time.

“CHOOSE YOU THIS DAY WHOM YOU WILL SERVE, BUT AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE (Family) 👪 WE WILL SERVE THE LORD!” Joshua 24:15.

Amen.

5. THE BOOK  OF RUTH. “Joy Comes in the Morning.”

Here we are at the final revelation of a beautiful and true story, not only of Ruth but also of Naomi.

The love of God is shed abroad into the hearts of the two most unlikely people.

A Jew and a Moabite!

A Mother-in-Law and her Daughter-in-Law!

Yes Naomi is now experiencing the real meaning of her Name, “Pleasant”

No more bitter and somewhat angry, now in her old age, she is full and delighted. She is blessed with a new purpose. To care Lovingly for Ruth and baby OBED!

I love the blessings the women (now her friends) speak over her.

“May this child be a restorer of life to you, a nourisher and support in your old age? For your daughter-in-law  who loves you, is “Better” to you than seven sons, who have been born to him.”

You also, dear reader, should not forget to encourage the elderly with words of BLESSING.

THEY NEED ENCOURAGEMENT More than many others.

Some are lonely, isolated, confused, and neglected!

“WEEPING MAY ENDURE FOR A NIGHT. BUT JOY COMES IN THE MORNING.”

For those of you who are disappointed with life. These are some promises you may claim and apply to your circumstances. God wants the best for you, and as you put your trust in Him, you will not be disappointed.

THE CENTRAL FACT IS THAT…

Ruth the Moabite, shut out by Law, is admitted by Grace into Israel and into the Kingdom of God.

This could be you, if so…

Know that the, “GRACE OF GOD IS UPON YOU.”

It does not matter to God about your colour, race, family background, or your sinful past.

When you come into the Family of God and into the presence of the Great King of Kings, and you come through the way He provided, the Way of the Cross! You are most welcome, loved and accepted.

This invitation is open to everyone.

Ask Jesus today to save your soul. Here is a simple prayer you can pray.

“LORD JESUS, THANKYOU FOR DYING FOR ME THAT I MAY LIVE ETERNALLY.

I AM A SINNER. I ASK YOU TO FORGIVE ME AND SAVE MY SOUL.

I GIVE MY LIFE TO YOU .PLEASE USE ME TO BRING HONOUR AND GLORY TO YOUR NAME.

Amen.

8. THE BOOK OF JUDGES.

JAEL’S VICTORY.

Deborah and Barack.

Deborah promised that she would accompany Barack to Mt Tabor, and she kept her word.

As his army waited in anticipation for the command to advance, they remembered her voice of authority saying,
“God has gone before you; go now and fight the enemies of the Lord.”

Barack’s voice thundered… “CHARGE!”
So they furiously ran down the mountain of Tabor to face their foe.

Above them, thick, dark, bluish-grey clouds gathered. Soon, lightning flashed, and thunder roared… then came a deluge of rain that caused the river Kishon to overflow its banks.
The winds caused the rain to almost blind them.

The ground turned into mud, and the water rose so quickly that horses, chariots, and men were swept down the river. Many of the Canaanites drowned in the raging waters on that fateful day.

Barack and his men pursued. Not one of Israel’s enemies was left alive except their Commander Sisera!

He was not among the slaughtered, for at an opportune time, during the confusion of the fighting, he jumped clear from his swirling iron chariot into the torrent and made his way to the shore.

Let us take a moment to step back from our story and examine Barack’s character more closely.
He was honoured by God in Hebrews chapter 11 in the “Great Hall of Faith.”

He ran down the hills of Mt. Tabor, knowing that God had spoken through Deborah, and now his confidence was in God alone, not in her. He had transferred his faith from her to…

GOD ALONE!

As he ran, he filled his lungs with the air of great courage. “God has already won this war” was foremost in his mind. His entire body was empowered by the Holy Spirit. It was as if he was… running on air… not a trace of tiredness!

He also recalled that Deborah had said the Canaanite army would fall at the “hands of a woman,” and wondered how this would come about.

Dear reader, we must also encourage ourselves in the Lord during life’s challenges.

YOU MUST SEEK HIS FACE. (For Advice)

DO HIS WILL. ( By Faith)

TRUST HIS WORD. ( In Obedience)

Then God will raise up the necessary people to carry out His purposes through you.

Our story so far: Through the blinding rain, the strong winds and muddying slosh,

Sisera ran for his life!
(He is the coward in this story, not Barack.)

Sisera ran toward Hazor, the city of Jabin. As he ran, having not eaten for some time, his strength began to fail, and he grew weaker and weaker.
He stumbled into the camp of Heber. These people were his allies, so he could find asylum here.

But he found only women in the camp, which greatly comforted him.

Moreover, when Jael, the wife of Heber, the Kenite, heard his story of defeat, she invited him into her own tent for refuge and rest. He gladly staggered inside.
“Don’t be afraid,” she said.

Her whole manner was kind and consoling. He was tense and tired.

He panting said, “What if Barack comes here looking for me?”
She glanced around the tent, then spoke gently, “Lie here on the ground, I’ll cover you with this rug.” Her voice whispered in tones of feminine sympathy.

“As for Barack, I will tell him I am alone.”

As Sisera relaxed, he felt an overwhelming thirst. Dry-mouthed, he croaked.”Please give me some water to drink.”
Jael sweetly smiled at him, shook her head, and said,” Sir, better than water, I have milk to relax and replenish your strength.”

She gave him some curdled milk (Yoghurt).
He drank it and soon… he fell fast asleep.

Milk is an excellent source of high-quality protein and different fats. It is known as nature’s lullaby due to its ingredients that induce sleep. These sleep-supporting compounds include..
Tryptophan, Serotonin, Melatonin, Magnesium and Calcium. Milk also contains nutrients
such as Phosphorus, Potassium, vitamin B and D.
Plus, it is an excellent source of Protein.

The Amino Acid Tryptophan plays an essential role in the production of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which induces sleep and relieves stress and anxiety (as in the case of Sisera).

Yet Jael had another plan! A readily available and easily available tent peg.. (Women put up the tents and took them down. It was an eastern custom in those times, and was expected of every woman.)

She crept softly nd slowly, toward the sleeping General, with a peg in one hand and a mallet in the other.

Oh dear, how GRUESOME!

Jael quietly raised her right hand, which held the mallet, and placed the nail closely to her temple. She is head… took a deep breath, and waited… then suddenly…

Whack! Umph!
She drove the nail through bone, sinew, brain and brawn into the head of the General and pinned his head to the ground! The sleeping warrior died instantly, his warm, red blood oozing onto the ground beneath.

JAEL CHOSE JUSTICE FOR THE ISRAELITES, though her husband was an ally with the Canaanites, which meant she had some explaining to do!

Jael was a hero in the sight of all Israel, fulfilling prophecies. Read Judges chapters 4.5.

Barack pursued the enemy and saw Sisera dead in a pool of his own blood, just as Deborah had said.
Sisera was indeed slain by the hands of a woman.

Our Application…

ALWAYS LISTEN TO THE LORD!!

Amen.

7. THE BOOK OF JUDGES.

A GOD ENCOUNTER.

Among the COMPROMISE and CORRUPTION of Israel in Judges, we have men and women who remained faithful to GOD and His ways.

They were:

“LIGHTS in the DARKNESS.”

“STREAMS in the DESERT and,

“TREES planted by the RIVERS of WATER.”

It is beneficial to read about those difficult times and learn that today’s choices can lead us away from God, and the results are much the same, even though in a different setting.
Gideon was the Sixth JUDGE of Israel and is

known as one of the Heroes in the history of ISRAEL.

Yet he did not start as a Hero.
He was at first a pathetic figure of unbelief!

Judges 6:1-23. He was a nervous young man, secretly threshing wheat in the Wine presses to hide it from marauding MIDIANITES.

God appears to him as a “MIGHTY MAN OF VALOUR.” He also tries to get Gideon to
see ‘himself’ as a Mighty Man of Valour…
But have a closer look at Gideon’s responses!

He gasps, “Oh my LORD, ‘If’ JEHOVAH is ‘with’ us, then ‘Why’ has this happened to us? And where are all His miracles of which we have heard?

Jehovah has forsaken us.
Didn’t He ‘bring’ us out of EGYPT?
GOD HAS FORSAKEN US!”

Whenever things go wrong, do you, as Gideon, question the validity of God?

“OH,” “IF,” “WHY,”

“WERE,” “BUT.”

God is so patient; in verse 14, He gives Gideon encouraging instructions.

“HAVE I NOT SENT YOU?”

But Gideon could only moan.

The “OH LORD, HOW SHALL I SAVE ISRAEL?”

The Lord replies further,
“SURELY I WILL BE WITH YOU.” What security should this bring, but not yet with nervous Gideon?

Knowing this arouses another stammering statement of lack of Faith from Gideon,

“IF I HAVE FOUND GRACE IN YOUR SIGHT, ‘SHOW ME A SIGN’!

This doubt indeed reveals that Gideon was not a man of faith, but rather one of uncertainty and unbelief.

How are you coping with your circumstances today?
Are you contending with God?

Do you have a List of things that God must do before you TRULY BELIEVE?

Think about the verse written in Heb 11:1.

“FAITH IS THE EVIDENCE OF THINGS NOT YET SEEN.”

A poem:

DOUBT SEES THE OBSTACLE,

FAITH SHOWS THE WAY.
DOUBT SEES THE DARK OF NIGHT,

FAITH LIGHTS THE WAY.

DOUBT DREADS TO TAKE THE FIRST STEP,

BUT FAITH WALKS ON THROUGH THE DAY.

DOUBT SAYS, “I CAN’T BELIEVE.”

FAITH ANSWERS.
“JESUS IS
THE WAY!”

We should pray,

“LORD, PLEASE INCREASE MY FAITH.”

It is not the quantity of your faith that counts. It’s the quality of your faith that matters.

It’s a Mustard seed faith in a Mighty Big God.

For your faith to grow, it must be exercised as you would your muscles at the Gym. The more you exercise them, the stronger they become. The more you step out in faith, the stronger it becomes.

Faith not in your own ability but in the ‘Giver of Faith.’ God Himself… The God of the impossible.

What are you believing for?

If it is the healing of an incurable disease, faith announces,

“IT IS DONE” BY THE WOUNDS THAT WOUNDED JESUS, I AM HEALED.

“Isaiah. 53:5.

That is faith in Action!

If you believe in a financial breakthrough. Faith takes hold of God’s promises and believes that all my needs are supplied.

“But my God, shall supply all my needs according to His riches in Glory by Christ Jesus.”

Philippians chapter 4:19.

When you need to move in faith, not knowing the outcome, God already sees you as His Warrior, and He will bring it to pass.

As we will see in the life of Gideon, he became what God had visualised and wrought a great victory against thousands of Midianites with only 300 men.

Amen

6. THE BOOK OF JUDGES.

GIDEON’S TRANSFORMATION.

Again, we read. Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and God handed them over to the MIDIANITES.

So cruel were these people that Israel hid from them in mountains, caves, and strongholds. They had stripped bare the land of everything that sustained Israel.

They rode Camels! They would ride sixty miles a day, and they could carry an enormous amount of produce over 200 miles.

A SPIRITUAL INNER CHANGE IN GIDEON.

Through the visit of an Angel from God, Gideon was convinced that God was faithful, THE TRUE GOD OF ISRAEL.

Note verse 24 of this chapter that at the command of God, Gideon built an Altar there unto the Lord.
He called it.”

JEHOVAH SHALOM,” which means,

THE LORD “MY PEACE.” He is now experiencing “THE PEACE THAT PASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING.” Phil 4:6,7.

THIS ALTAR is an OUTWARD symbol of an INWARD transaction between God and man.

This Altar means that Gideon had turned his back on false gods and became a worshipper of,

THE ONE TRUE GOD. Upon giving HIS WILL OVER TO GOD, he now becomes.

FULLY CONSECRATED TO HIM.

He no longer argued with GOD.

Now God commanded him to,

“Throw down the Altar of Baal.”

Wreaking this altar was to counter the popular religion that had caused the people to err.
For Gideon, this was

Inviting Death!

BUT GIDEON DID IT!
Now Gideon is controlled by the HOLY SPIRIT, and God’s transforming power is working through him.

People flocked to him. Read further, and you will see the marvellous victory won over Midian and the freeing of Israel from their enemies ‘ yoke.

CONFIRMATION.

Gideon needed a sign to confirm that God was calling him to deliver Israel from the MIDIANITES.

This sign was not a temptation of God’s power to save Israel. Instead, it was a sign that God would deliver through ‘him.’

The Lord shows him through a test of faith, a “fleece.” See Chapter 6:39-40.

GIVE YOURSELF TO GOD!

By handing your will over to His WILL!
Then this Promise is For YOU!

“FAITHFUL IS HE THAT CALLED YOU AND.
HE WILL ALSO DO IT!”

Do you need a sign from God to confirm your calling?

Doesn’t the New Testament teach that an evil and adulterous generation seek a sign?”

In Gideon’s case, the sign was given to encourage him to step out in faith and trust the Lord.

The sign that the scribes and Pharisees sought was to discredit Jesus’ claim to be the Son of God in the flesh.

There is a real difference. If you are confident that you have heard from God, whether it has been placed in your heart by the Holy Spirit and confirmed by the Word of God, you can step out into the unknown, assured that “Faithful is He that has called you, and He will also do it.”

If you’re still unsure and fear is gripping your heart, then feel free to ask the Lord to confirm it with a sign. He will gladly give it.

Read about Gideon’s sign that God would use him to deliver Israel from her enemy.

Judges chapter 6:36.

Though Gideon was fearful at first, it was not long before he allowed those who were fearful and afraid. To return home and choose those who were strong in the Lord and in the power of his might to join in the battle.

This is amazing… 22,000 men went home!

What can you say when facing a difficult challenge?

“I WILL TRUST AND NOT BE AFRAID.”

Amen.

5. THE BOOK OF JUDGES.

SAMSON’S VICTORIOUS DEATH.

Samson, day after day, continued his imprisoned existence, working tediously at the prison mill, pushing in circles the heavy machinery at the strength of an ordinary man with absolutely no sight!

His whole body stood tortured by excruciating pain.

One thing that the Philistines forgot to check was his hair!

So, at about the rate of about half an inch a month, it grew and grew, unnoticed in the dark prison yard.

A day came when the Lords of the Philistines gathered to offer a great sacrifice to their God, DAGON.

His name meant (little fish), representing the reproductive powers of nature. (A fish could reproduce 100,000 eggs annually.) He was the god who increased the number of Philistines.

And when they were drunk and merry-hearted, they said,

“Let’s call Samson out to entertain us.”

They amused themselves, taunted him, and gave praise to Dagon, saying,

“OUR GOD HAS DELIVERED OUR ENEMY TO US! THE ONE WHO KILLED SO MANY IS NOW IN OUR POWER”

The people roared, and Samson could feel the hot air of their roar upon his flesh.
Then they placed him where everyone could see: those on the ground, those on the balconies, and those high upon the rooftops.

Samson said to the lad leading him, “Son, place my hands upon the pillars that the whole house leans upon.”

There were at least 3,000 officials, the Lords with their families, and all those who could squeeze into the temple; the place was alive with Philistines.

Then Samson lifted his eyes toward the Lord, took hold of the two main pillars, and earnestly prayed.

Lord God, please remember me and strengthen me, that I may pay back the Philistines this once, for the loss of my two eyes.

The lad did as he requested.

“He slowly used all his weight and leaned with all his might against them.

The Strength of God surged through his whole body, the entire building shifted and cracked, and a deep rumbling permeated the atmosphere.

The Lord had heard his desperate prayer, and his mighty strength returned!!

His cry to the Lord reminds me of the verse written in the Psalms.

“THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH AND MY SONG. HE HAS BECOME MY SALVATION”

This promise is for you, my dear reader, to encourage you in times of difficulty.

Phil 4:13. Is a truth waiting for you to claim when things are impossible and beyond your natural strength? Jesus gives you supernatural power.

“HIS STRENGTH!” is made perfect in our utter weakness.

“I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST, WHO STRENGTHENS ME.” by

“Phil 4:13.

NEXT IN OUR TRUE STORY… THERE WAS SHEER PANIC!!!

The horrific sounds of screaming people were heard from a far distance, coupled with the terrible sounds of cracking and crunching of the temple.

The entire building began to collapse as the pillars holding the huge house broke apart and gave way.

Above the confusion of panic and cries for help, Samson finally shouted,

“LORD, LET ME DIE WITH THE PHILISTINES!”

The whole temple fell on every person in it, including himself!

So he killed more people when he died than he had in his lifetime!

God can always use us despite our flaws. He can still use you if you, as Samson, return to Him with all your heart.

Note.

There are times when God removes His protection from you, especially when you knowingly and willingly choose to sin. He does not forsake you, but He stands back and waits until you call upon him for Mercy, Truth, and Forgiveness, and then He will deliver you.

Samson’s strength did not lie in his hair alone; it was a token of his vow to God from whom he drew his strength.

The destruction was a Divine act of the Holy Spirit, which came upon him.

See Chapters

13:25 and 15:14.

Coupled with his faith, the Lord heard and answered his prayers. Read Heb 11:32-40.

Repentance is the only way to approach a Holy, Righteous God. Be honest with God. “Lord, You are right… I am so wrong.”

“WHOSOEVER SHALL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE… SAVED!!” (DELIVERED)

Why don’t you pray this Prayer?

“Lord Jesus, I am a sinner, I have not listened to you, and now I am in this mess! Thank you for shedding your blood on the cross of Calvary.”

“Forgive me, Lord, and come into my life. Please cleanse me, and save my soul.”

“I surrender everything to you. Please fill me with your Holy Spirit to empower me to live for you.” Please turn my circumstances for your good.”

Romans 8:28.

Thank you, Jesus, for giving me Your life so I can live.”

Amen.
