4. THE BOOK OF LEVITICUS.

CELEBRATION FEASTS

Please read chapter 23:1-44. Read slowly and carefully for a deeper understanding.

This chapter offers a complete list and describes it as a schedule of celebrations of God’s people to commemorate what He had done for them and anticipate what He had promised to do.

Far from being a cultural holiday, Israel’s festivals are prophetic and powerful.
They also tell us that God values celebrations and that people need them.

They also establish a rhythm of life that pictures a story of redemption every year.

From Deliverance to Faithfulness.

From Faithfulness to Fruitfulness.

From Fruitfulness to ultimate Fulfilment.

Many Christians today have not understood their implications concerning the Lord Jesus.
Jesus kept the feasts during His ministry, while He was here. Others are rediscovering the riches of God’s Calendar, its story, and the Fulfilment it predicts.

LEVITICUS IS LOADED WITH MEANING!

There are seven feasts celebrated.

1. THE FEAST OF THE PASSOVER.

2. THE FEAST OF PENTECOST.

3. THE BLOWING OF THE TRUMPETS.

4. THE DAY OF ATONEMENT.

5. THE FEAST OF THE TABERNACLE.

6. THE SEVENTH YEAR SABBATH.

7. THE YEAR OF JUBILEE.

I suggest you study and see how significant they are to you.
They are prophetic and closely related to Jesus’s earthly Ministry.

THE PASSOVER FEAST.
The celebration, which began at sunset on the 14th day of the first month,
was commemorative of the Deliverance of Israel out of Egypt.

This feast came first because it speaks of redemption, the slain Lamb and its shed blood was the covering from Judgement.
It was slain and eaten on the evening of the 14th day.

“JESUS IS THE LAMB OF GOD”

THE SLAYING SPEAKS OF SALVATION;

AND THE FEASTING SPEAKS OF

FELLOWSHIP.

Then at the beginning of the 15th day, there were 7 days of eating unleavened bread (Bread without yeast).

Leaven is a symbol of Moral corruption of sin, and Israel’s abstinence from it. You may want to read Leviticus chapter 23:5-14.

We will observe now the.

FEAST OF PENTECOST.

Therefore, this feast was fixed and fell just fifty days after the Passover.
In the New Testament, the word in the Greek is translated “Fiftieth.”

The Passover “Wave Sheaves” were the commencement of the grain harvest.

The “Wave loaves” marked its completion.

So, we have the Wave Sheafthe grain from God’s Harvest.
And the Wave Loaf, food to be eaten.

Typically, this observance speaks of the New Testament’s great PENTECOST, which took place exactly 50 days after our Lord’s Resurrection, namely, the coming of the HOLY SPIRIT upon the Christians who were redeemed through CHRIST. Acts 2:1-6.

It is a picture of God’s people gathered by the Holy Spirit and presented before Him in connection with Christ’s preciousness.

“Unto those who believe He is Precious.”

The seven days mean completion.
God was teaching them to be separated from all evil and to be a holy people. Paul applies this in ..

1 Corinthians 5:7,8.

He explains the meaning of “leaven,” which is “malice and wickedness.”

“Unleavened”, which is the bread of Sincerity and truth.”

The first and last days of the week were the Sabbaths, during which no servile work was done.

This ties in with Hebrews 4:10. We are to cease from our works of righteousness to gain Salvation and instead rest on the finished work of Jesus Christ.

How do we apply this to our lives today?

We come to Jesus for salvation and the Holy Spirit for His Empowerment to live a separate life from the things of this world and live a holy life unto Him, which is very precious!

You have BEEN DELIVERED from darkness into His marvellous light.

“SO LIVE IN THE LIGHT, AS HE IS IN THE LIGHT,
AND THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST WILL CLEANSE YOU FROM ALL SIN.”

Amen.

3. THE BOOK OF LEVITICUS. Love Your Neighbour.

LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR!
This admonition from God has no other meaning than what it says:

Love him as you love yourself.”

Leviticus 19:18

In Matt 5:43,44.

Jesus confirmed this command by saying .. We should love our enemies also. For this is how the Father treats them.

It’s love under the new Covenant, where the law gave you permission to hate your enemies. Only Jesus could change the law.

It is an entirely different attitude we should have toward them.

Love instead of Hate!

Blessing instead of Cursing!

Good deeds, instead of avoiding speaking to them.

(Rejection is cruel when used as punishment.)

God is not partial in His love toward the righteous and the unrighteous.

But!! He hates sin!

He loves the spiteful and the sweet person.

He loves everybody, all the time.

This is what Jesus meant when He said,

“I have not come to destroy the Law, but to fulfil the Law and the Prophets.”

The New Testament makes this plain in eight different places and gives weight to what is already a challenging rule.

Do we really understand the implications as we should?
Here are some ways you can handle neighbourly living ..

WE LOVE OUR NEIGHBOURS BY THE WAY WE SPEAK!

The Lord our God said,

“I WILL NOT TOLERATE PEOPLE WHO SLANDER THEIR NEIGHBOURS.”

“I WILL NOT ENDURE CONCEIT AND PRIDE.”

Psalm 101:5.

This is a fascinating verse, as it corrects our inner motive that speaks against someone to make ourselves look better. It is really pride and selfishness on our part.

We help our neighbours because they have a need, not according to their behaviour or status.

We quickly help ourselves when needed, despite our faults and failures.

So let’s not limit our help to others in the same way.

That is how we love ourselves!!

WE LOVE OUR NEIGHBOURS, EVEN WHEN IT IS INCONVENIENT!

When they hurt, you should offer friendship and help in any way possible.

WE LOVE OUR NEIGHBOURS FROM THE HEART!

Pray about what Jesus would do in your sticky situation.

Let’s not envy our neighbour’s prosperity, but be satisfied with what we own.

Please don’t go into debt to impress them! (Keeping up with the Joneses.)

Read Exodus 20:17.

This verse means getting rid of envy and being happy when they renovate their home or purchase a stunning new red Jag that purrs like a pussycat!!

It requires a heart that rejoices with them in their accumulated wealth.
Paul admonishes us to be content with what we have and who we are in Christ.

WE LOVE OUR NEIGHBOURS BY FORGIVING THEM!

Leviticus 19:18 reminds us.

“DO NOT SEEK REVENGE OR BEAR A GRUDGE AGAINST A FELLOW ISRAELITE,

BUT LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR AS YOURSELF.”

This isn’t easy. Only forgiveness can drive those adverse desires far from your mind.

When you do this, you present a Christlike attitude that softens their heart toward you and your Christian faith.

Keep handing over those negative thoughts that want to give them “a piece of your mind.”

You will be known as an attractive and noble person. You never know, you may be the person who leads them to Jesus Christ!

Allow me to urge you to gaze at our Lord Jesus, who fully loves us.

As his neighbours, we are freely, entirely, and wonderfully loved!

Jesus DIED for us when we didn’t deserve it,
at the most significant inconvenience to Himself, and He forgave us.

He put aside all concern for His image and reputation, and loved us from His Heart.

He died in your place to rescue you from all condemnation over how you failed others and yourself.

He rose from the dead in power, giving you who are joined to him, NEW LIFE, and the ability to love the difficult and unlovely people as He does.

WHO IS YOUR NEIGHBOUR?

Don’t think that it is only the neighbours who live next door.
This includes everyone that God puts into your life..
Husband, Wife, Family, Relatives, Friends and… Enemies!

The Orphan and the Widow, Strangers (as the good Samaritan cared for a stranger he had not yet met)

Church Pastors, Leaders and your Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

It is harder to love and forgive a Christian who has rejected you because you have such high expectations of them.

You must give that person to God and leave them with Him. I’ve learned recently that I must.

Stand still, say nothing, do nothing, leave that person with God and …Move on! God will deal with His enemies in His own way.

The Saved and the Sinner alike!

Finally, as the Scriptures teach,

“Love those who offend and mistreat you.”

Can we love God and not our neighbours?
No .. not really!
Can we “love” someone and not “like” them?

Well!

The emotions only involve liking someone,

“You feel favourable toward them.” ( Macquarie Dictionary.)

But God’s love also affects your will and emotions more passionately.

You choose with your will to love them unconditionally, forever! That is how God loves you.
So “love” and “like” are synonymous with each other.

This is my conclusion: You love a person but dislike their bad behaviour or sin. You let the Holy Spirit convict them. (This is not your job.)

Your “Will” decides to continue to love them as God loves, but you hate their adverse behaviour. Maybe you cannot trust them, but you can be neighbourly!

Please read,

1 John chapter 4:7-21. Read it twice!!
Lovelessness is expressed by a judgmental attitude, and that is sin. A critical spirit springs from this attitude. Unkind Words are spoken, and physical abuse can easily follow.

Feelings say … “I want to slap her down!”

But love endures all things. You “decide” to “be nice by exercising your will.

When things heat up, get alone with God, and gather from Him all the Grace He can give, to help you in your time of need.

Don’t be a hypocrite. Do not have higher standards and expectations of other people while doing the same things yourself.

God loves you as you are, so you should love each other.

You may need some time out from that relationship to find His Will for your life.

Relationships that destroy each other are not acceptable to God. If you are at this stage, seek Professional advice from a Godly Counsellor or move on.

Here is a prayer for you to pray in difficult times.

“Lord God,
Some people in my life are tough to love. It’s hard not to detest them when they try to pull down everything I hold dear.

Please forgive me for the hurt I’ve caused, and I choose to forgive them even though I don’t feel like it.

“You Lord can change my situation, so I surrender it to you, that I will, having done all, to stand through your Grace.”

“Please give me wisdom to make the right choices.
Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer.

I refuse to hold on to offence and will not spread gossip about them to justify myself, so I bless them in your Name.

LORD, I BATHE IN YOUR FOUNTAIN OF LOVE.”

In Jesus Name.

Amen.

2. THE BOOK OF LEVITICUS.

THE ATONEMENT.

I decided to conduct a personal study on the Atonement by comparing Leviticus with the Book of Hebrews, without relying on a commentary, and allowing the Holy Spirit to bring revelation instead.

I was amazed and elated to see the Atonement’s more profound meaning.
I was elated when I discovered that all my sins had been forgiven and would be forgotten entirely.

This truly means, my PAST- PRESENT and FUTURE SINS.

All because God loved me and sent His Son to pay the price for all my sin by shedding His Precious Blood on the cross of Calvary.

So many Christians live in guilt, deep shame, and fear of punishment due to a lack of understanding of what the Atonement truly means.

So, look closer at the Atonement to find “freedom from condemnation.” In Leviticus 16:1, Priests, after their own cleansing, chose two goats for the ceremony. The first goat they slaughtered was a sin offering for the people.
Leviticus 16:15.

He sprinkled the goat’s blood on the Altar (Mercy seat) to cleanse it and make it holy.

Then he turned toward the live goat, laid both hands upon its head, and confessed the people’s sins, such as ceremonial uncleanness and injustice. This transferred all their sins onto the head of the goat. A man, specifically chosen for the task, would drive the goat into the wilderness of desolation, never to return again. The slain goat was a substitute for the people’s sins; it took their place of punishment.

The other goat was called the “Scapegoat, which had “all” of the people’s sins on its head.

A WONDERFUL PICTURE OF THE WORK OF JESUS.

Both goats are types of Jesus. The first goat showed how Christ’s death satisfied God’s justice.

See Isaiah 5:1,11

The second goat reveals how Christ bore the full weight of our guilt and shame.

(Everything the devil uses to accuse us.). Then He carried them away from us, and when Jesus died, HE entered the wilderness of death, returning all the accusations back in the devil’s face!!

Amen! Thank you, Jesus!!

Now you can enjoy God’s complete forgiveness, and you never need to say, I’m too great a sinner for God to save me.

“No, you are not too great a sinner! Don’t live under the heavy weight of guilt and shame.

“AS FAR AS THE EAST IS FROM THE WEST, HE HAS REMOVED OUR TRANSGRESSIONS FROM US.”

PSALM 1O3:12. Keep this in your mind. Under the old Covenant, people’s sins were “Covered,” which is why the Atonement ceremony was held each year on the Sabbath.
The Atonement of Christ did not just cover our sins…“He took them away!”

Hebrews 10:4.

It was by the shedding of His Blood. (Blood brought life, and not death!)

That is the meaning of the word, Atonement.
Glorious,

“AT- ONE – MENT! “AT ONE WITH GOD!” Through Christ.

The Old Testament is a shadow of Christ and the “REALITY” of Christ in the New Testament. When the single God-Man gave his life, He opened the way to: ”whosoever will” may come! “THE LIFE IS IN THE BLOOD,
AND MUST FOR SIN ATONE
ON: “SACRIFICE” AND ONCE FOR ALL!
THE BLOOD OF JESUS ALONE.
OH, SEE THE GUILT OF SIN,
WHICH NEEDED SUCH A PRICE!
AND SEE THAT MARVEL, OF HIS LOVE,
WHO MADE THE SACRIFICE!”

J.S. Baxter.

THE GREAT HIGH PRIEST.

As the great High Priest, Jesus took His Blood and entered into the Heavenly Sanctuary, with the blood, and laid it on the Altar. A Perfect Sacrifice!

But He has not yet come the second time for His people. Hebrews 9:24.

At that time, Israel will be a penitent people.
They will weep and say…

“THE HARVEST IS PAST, THE SUMMER HAS ENDED, AND WE ARE NOT SAVED.”

Then they shall look upon Jesus, whom they pierced, and weep!
Then in believing contrition …

THEY SHALL BE SAVED!!

You, dear reader, who need to be saved, must realise that your time to repent of your sins is now!

The way to receive Him is open now!

“NOW! IS THE ACCEPTABLE TIME, NOW! IS THE DAY OF SALVATION!”

After Jesus finally arrives, it will be too late.

Please pray this prayer of salvation. Then you will be saved for all eternity.

“LORD JESUS,
I THANK YOU FOR SHEDDING YOUR PRECIOUS BLOOD FOR ME. THANK YOU FOR PAYING THE PRICE FOR ALL MY SINS. PLEASE FORGIVE MY SIN AND CLEANSE ME FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS. PLEASE FILL ME WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT TO EMPOWER ME TO BECOME COMPLETELY CONFORMED TO YOUR IMAGE.

Amen.

Please let me know if you pray this prayer from my blog, so I can offer a prayer for you.

“GONE, GONE, GONE .. ALL MY SINS ARE GONE !!”

Think about this .. When I talk about sin, I’m not putting sin into categories, as some people do, e.g. Adultery is worse than telling a lie.

“In Christ, God dealt with the ‘Human Sinful Nature, ‘ not specific sins.

This fallen nature was passed upon us from Adam. So when you receive the Atonement of Christ, you receive His Nature, and become a new Creature. (Creation)

The old has passed away, and all things have become new. That is how God sees us in Christ. Yes, the temptation to sin is still there, but when we sin, we repent and confess it to God, and because of the Atonement, we are forgiven.

You may be wondering, “But what if I die in an accident before I get to confess my last sin?

“This is why the Atonement is so exciting,

IT DEALS WITH SIN AS A WHOLE.”

OUR SIN WILL NOT BE REMEMBERED, “ANYMORE”

Amen!

1. THE BOOK OF LEVITICUS. The Central Message.

IT’S RICHES!

The account of Leviticus picks up after God has delivered the Israelites from their captors. He mightily leads them into the desert and safely brings them to Mt. Sinai to encounter Him. God is working on their behalf.

This is a reminder that He was merging with His people, and the law was based on His Holy character.

Then, He gave instructions on how to build a mobile place of worship. At Mount Sinai, Leviticus focuses on ethical, ceremonial, and ritual details for God’s new nation and a newly established priesthood.

Is Leviticus boring to read?

Some people answer, “Yes!” It is not dull; it is full of rich treasures, especially when you read it in conjunction with the New Testament.

Don’t pass over this excellent book, or skim through its pages. You will be blessed, I promise you!

It is about your God, a HOLY GOD who wants you to know Him better.

Here we see the altars, where people come in thoughtful preparation; no one leaves without bloodshed and sacrifice. The joy of knowing God is tempered with an awareness of severe cost.

This is not the same as an earthly relationship; it is a union sealed in blood.

All its requirements are gloriously fulfilled by the Blood of the Lamb. (Blessed Jesus) who was slain for us before the creation of the World.

The Precious Blood of Jesus.

THE STRUCTURE OF LEVITICUS.

There are two main parts in Leviticus.
The first part covers chapters 1-17.

THE FIRST PART.
We have received non-moral obligations here. This part also deals with worship and the Tabernacle.

Part one shows the way to God by sacrifice. This has to do with the People’s Cleansing.

THE SECOND PART.
This part covers chapters 18-27.
Here God is dealing with the relationship concerning morals. It has to do with practice.

It shows that our walk with God is how we separate ourselves from the practice of the ungodly, which is defilement and punishment. God wants us to live clean lives!!

CHRISTIANITY TODAY.

We as Christians do not need to keep all these requirements in Leviticus because they are all fulfilled in Christ. But we live by its principles of separation from the world, such as…
The New Testament contains passages on cleanliness and other matters related to living a Christlike, Spirit-filled life.

THE CENTRAL MESSAGE OF LEVITICUS.

The message is concerned with “Fellowship.”

The idea of a new relationship on the grounds of a blood-sealed Covenant.

This is defined as a Godward Fellowship, and there is a Manward Fellowship.

This truth is expressed for us in 1 John 1:7.

“If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have Fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, cleanses us from all sin.”

Yes, through the blood of Jesus Christ (as we walk in the light), we can fellowship with each other; truly, our Fellowship is with the Father.

So we have the “Grounds of Fellowship,”
which is Sacrifice.

The “Walk of Fellowship,” which means separation.

EXTERNALLY CLEAN.

Lev 11:1 – 47.
In this chapter, Moses and Aaron
spelled out instructions from God about foods that were “clean” and “unclean.”
These rules defined what could be consumed and what had to be avoided.

Every bird and insect was permitted or forbidden.

As we move through the Old Testament, the terms ‘clean and unclean’ include the internal condition.

INTERNALLY CLEAN!

See Psalm 51:10.

“Create in me a clean Heart, Oh God.”
Ultimately, God would make the Israelites clean, but not through the sacrificial system.

Now, please read Ezekiel 36:25 to 37.

“A New Heart I will give you,”
“And a New Spirit I will put within you”

JESUS’S TEACHING!
Jesus emphasised that the “heart” is where defilement begins.

He said, in Mark 15:7
“It’s not what goes into the body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes out of your mouth.”

Jesus solved the problem about Him. He also offered Himself as the sole solution for our uncleanness.

Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 6:11,
which confirms the words of Jesus.

“But you were cleansed; You were made right with God by calling on the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and by the Spirit of our God.

“Isn’t this so-so wonderful!

Through “JESUS,”

“YOU ARE CLEAN! THROUGH THE WORDS HE HAS SPOKEN UNTO YOU.”
John 15:3.

Amen.
