1. THE BOOK OF NUMBERS.

DISCONTENTMENT.

The heart ❤️ of Israel.

Why did they so easily go astray from the Lord their God?

Why did they bring their Idols with them on their journey out of Egypt?

Why did they murmur against Moses, their leader?

Why did they whinge about their lack of water?

Further on, we will understand the reason why.

Israel began complaining only three days into their journey. (Complaining had already become a habit in Egypt.)

The Ark sought a resting place for them, and God comforted them.

Canaan is just ahead. They carry with them the pledge of victory. (the Ark).

They really should be singing songs of rejoicing and thanksgiving!

Yet they are murmuring.
The fire of judgment breaks out but is stayed by Moses’s fervent prayer.

Can you imagine the pressure they put on Moses?

At one stage, Moses became so discouraged.

With tears running down his cheeks, forming tracks on his hot, dusty face, he cried unto God,

“I AM NOT ABLE TO BEAR ALL THESE PEOPLE ALONE.”

Numbers 4:10-13.

Seventy elders were chosen, upon whom God filled with the Holy Spirit.

There are between two and three million people, with all their children, tents, cattle, sheep, and belongings.
We can understand the earnestness of Moses’ prayers for this great multitude!

Read with me the two prayers at the end of chapter ten. Numbers 10:35-36.

When they set forward, he prayed …

“RISE UP, OH LORD, AND LET YOUR ENEMIES BE SCATTERED; AND LET THEM THAT HATE YOU, FLEE BEFORE YOU.”

And when they rested, he said …
“RETURN, OH LORD, UNTO THE MANY THOUSANDS OF ISRAEL.”

Murmuring never makes things easier; it usually brings more trouble.

“THOSE WHO MURMUR WITHOUT A CAUSE ARE SOON GIVEN CAUSE TO MURMUR.” (quote.)

God had said,

“YOU MURMUR AGAINST MOSES YOU MURMUR AGAINST ME.”

Christian, what do you allow to come out of your mouth?

CHOOSE YOUR FRIENDS!

Murmuring is contagious. You will soon be influenced to complain if you stay around a complaining group. It is sad that people who believe these complaints begin to see them as truth, which is not so!

COMPLAINTS TURN INTO GOSSIP.

When you leave such a person, you feel drained, sometimes a bit depressed and guilty.

Choose Spirit-filled, faith-filled people as your long-term friends. Choose forever friends, eternal friends!

Then you will win over murmuring, complaining, and all its consequences.

To answer our question, why did they complain?
Complaining is not only a habit, it’s a matter of the heart.

Its root is discontentment.

You see the negative side of everything and let everybody else know. You really do not appreciate all the good around you, and miss the Goodness of God that He pours upon you every day.

“EVERY GOOD AND PERFECT GIFT COMES DOWN FROM GOD, WHO NEVER CHANGES HIS MIND, OR VARIES IN ANY WAY”

James 1:17.

Paul tells us to be content with what we own, who we are, our age, and our appearance. Your circumstances, etc.

Contentment comes as you begin to focus upon Jesus and give thanks in everything, for He has promised,

“I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU OR FORSAKE YOU.
NO NEVER!

Amen.
