THE UTTERMOST PURPOSE.

We only need to read the book of Mark two or three times, and his uppermost purpose will capture us. He wants us to see Jesus at work. It is as though he says: “Look! What Jesus did proves what He was.”

What He taught is what He wraught.
His works demonstrate the Lord’s words; watch and marvel at His supernatural miracles. I’m sure they will convince you.
In the book of Mark, there is no genealogy as in Mathew, no introduction preceding the birth of Jesus.
Right away, we are at the Jordan to hear John the Baptist announce, “One mightier.” is at hand. Jesus then began His miracle ministry.
Whereas Mathew took eight chapters to reach this point, Mark sums it all up in one chapter.
Mark’s writing is not skimpy, rather it is alive with vivid detail. He focuses on what Jesus ‘did’ and omits what He ‘said.’ This is why this gospel is the shortest of all four.
Yes, Mark’s gospel is certainly what Jesus did. Another example is that of the preaching of the Kingdom. Matthew the Kingdom is mentioned fifty times, yet in Mark, it is on His lips only fourteen times.
This observation shows us that Mark the evangelist intended us to marvel at Jesus’ “mighty works.”
Mark, the spiritual cameraman, was giving us shots of unforgettable scenes. He took shot after shot of breathtaking marvels. In this gospel, one mighty work follows another, so we will with the multitude exclaim …
“SURELY THIS WAS THE SON OF GOD!”
LOOK AND SEE!
MARK- “Jesus Christ, the SON OF GOD” Verse 1.
Look through the earlier chapters of these books of the Bible and you will see how they introduce the Coming One.
ISAIAH – “Prepare you the way of “THE LORD ” Verse 3.
JOHN – Here comes “ONE MIGHTIER” Verse 7.
GOD – You are my “BELOVED SON.” Verse 11.
Jesus heals a Paralytic man.

A demon was cast by the power and authority of Jesus Verse 26.

No sickness or disease was beyond His Mighty Power.

At once, His public ministry begins. Straight away, we have a rapid series of astounding works…we call them miracles!
Crowds of invalids cured at the door! Verse 34.
A leper cleansed by the wayside Verse 42.

All this is in chapter one. The words “straightway” and “immediately” are everywhere. The people are “astonished “ at His doctrine and are “amazed” at His “authority. ” His “fame” spread throughout the community.
On the very heels of all this, chapter two brings a quick succession of hostile criticisms.
THE“This man speaks blasphemy; who can forgive sins but God only? “
THE PHARISEES – “How come He eats and drinks with publicans and sinners?”
JOHN’S DISCIPLES – “Why don’t your disciples fast as we and the Pharisees do?”
Yet Jesus is in complete control and answers each criticism succinctly.
Please read the entire book of Mark!
If I could twist your arm to make you read your Bible, I certainly would. But you have to “want too” For instance if you only read a few isolated paragraphs or a chapter here and there you miss being carried along in the glowing, vivid experience, the aliveness of the story.
Even a slow reader can travel through Mark in about two hours.
You and I should set apart a time each day without fail and read far more than just your favourite devotional book.
See this book as a sacred novel, all the more extraordinary because it is not fiction …
IT IS TRUTH!!
Amen.

Psalm 103. “HE FORGIVES OUR INIQUITIES AND HEALS ALL OUR DISEASES.”
