3. THE BOOK OF MATTHEW.

THE LIFE OF THE MESSIAH.

This masterpiece of writing is the combined genius of human intervention and Divine inspiration.

The first thing that I suggest is, that you read the book of Matthew through from beginning to the end over a week or so. Then read the passages we mention simultaneously. If you find a verse that speaks to you personally, write it out, put it on your fridge and memorise it over the period of time we are taking to discuss the gospel of Matthew.

THE OPENING GENEALOGY.

JESUS’S FAMILY LINE.

Matthew had in his mind that the coming Messiah would be born in a particular family. He started with Abraham, the Father of the Jewish nation, and then showed the descent through  David, the head of Judah’s covenant-promised royal  line, which ran the covenant promise of the coming  Messiah King.

Matthew proved that Jesus was truly the Son of Abraham and Heir of David. That is what he did.

There are fourteen generations from David to the carrying away of the Jews to Babylon.

THE EXILE.

Then from the Babylonian exile to Christ there are Fourteen generations. This is something very interesting you may not know. For instance there are 60 generations from Adam to Christ and this goes in six tens … each tenth man is notably significant.

The first tenth man is NOAH. God’s judgement came upon man by the flood. But the line is preserved through righteous NOAH.

The second tenth is… ABRAHAM. God gave him the Covenant of promise.

The third tenth is BOAZ. He married the beautiful Moabitess name Ruth.

The fourth tenth is UZZIAH. The Messianic line is now the royal line of Judah and the coming of,

CHRIST WHO IS TO BECOME – “THE KING OF KINGS.”

AND,THE LORD OF LORDS!

The sixth tenth man is,

ZERUBABAL: He is a type of Christ.

Then, the final tenth man of significance is JOSEPH, the husband of MARY, of whom was born  JESUS, who is called :

“CHRIST the MESSIAH”

So, each tenth man is typical,  prophetic, anticipative:  Christ fulfils all in all.

What a privilege it is for us to be living in these times, in the age of grace. Where Jesus fulfilled the law and the hope of the gospel (good news) is easily accessible for us to believe and receive all that Jesus accomplished.

Yet, what responsibility is ours to share the good news with those lost and hopeless in this world of sin?

The harvest is great, and the labourers are few. Make it your goal  to win one, who will teach one, to win one, until “all” men come to repentance. Amen !

ASK GOD TO FORGIVE YOU AND COME INTO YOUR LIFE TO CHANGE YOU.

Amen.
