It is good to know that in the Judean capital, long ago, the great Prophet Isaiah had a friend in whom he could trust. He was a fellow-champion of truth named Micha. He prophesied in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. Both Isaiah and Micah worked contemporaneously with one another, though Isaiah, being the elder of the two, was a man of the schools, while Micah was a man of the fields. Probably, Isaiah worked with the upper class, whereas Micah tended towards the lower.
HIS NAME. Translated “Micah” means, “Who is like Jehovah?”
“We can detect a little play on this. ‘Who is like Jehovah?” When he winds up one of his messages with the. Question, “Who is God like unto You?”
THE MAIN MESSAGE OF HIS BOOK.
1. THE SOON COMING JUDGMENT.
Chapters 1-3.
2. ULTIMATE BLESSING PROMISED.
Chapters 4-5.
3. PRESENT REPENTANCE NEEDED.
Chapters 6-7.
So the central thought is:
PRESENT JUDGEMENT BUT FUTURE BLESSING!
Why judgment? Because of Israel’s unfaithfulness to God’s Covenant. The future blessing is a result of God’s unchanging faithfulness.
The future for Israel will be fulfilled in Christ, His life, His death, His Resurrection and at the culmination of all things when He returns in great glory.
GREAT TRUTHS.
Some of the mightiest truths in the Old Testament are expressed in Micah.
First, the profound dealings of God with the Jews as a nation.
Second, God unmasked the false worship of other gods. He then declares the true worship of Jesus Christ who is yet to come.
Finally we come to Micah’s declaration of, What is true religion?
Turn to Micah Chapter 6:8.
Note that God ‘REQUIRES’ Because he is God. Also, God ‘REVEALS’ Let us quote this verse from the King James Bible.
“HE HAS ‘SHOWN’ THEE OH MAN.”
This is not a new revelation for Israel. They have known all along what God required of them through His Holy Word, the Torah.
It is through the Word of God we become aquainted with Him, have a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. Then as we read His Word we become like Him, one with Him and introduce others to Him.
“WHAT DOES THE LORD ‘REQUIRE’ OF THEE?”
Require means, (an authoritative or an official demand.) It is imperative for us to obey His commands, for our own good and safety.
“BUT TO DO JUSTLY” How do I do justly? Be honest and fair. With God, with Yourself and with Others.
There is no such thing as a white 🤥 lie. Satan is the Father of liars and God is Truth. He wants you to transparent and true in everything you do. There is warning that you must heed.
“No habitual Liar will have their part in the Kingdom of Heaven.”
We are told to:
“Confess our sins and He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
“TO LOVE MERCY.” God is Merciful. He is full of loving kindness. He is compassionate toward us. So should be toward each other, not for our gain, but for the building up of the hurting, the sick and dying. The lonely 🥺 the beggar, the prostitute, the drug addict and the alcoholic.
Remember the story Jesus told about the Good Samaritan?
“AND WALK HUMBLY WITH THE LORD.”
To walk humbly with another person, you must first humble yourself before God. Self must be crucified. Then He will exalt you. Pride is the opposite of humility. It was pride that caused God to reject Satan and cast him out of Heaven. Pride hinders us at every turn.
Be a servant, ask the Lord for a servant’s ❤️ heart. We are all insignificant when compared to our Lord.
“YET WITH GOD, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE”.
YOU WILL RAISE TO GREAT HIGHTS AS YOU HUMBLE YOURSELF BEFORE HIM.
A prayer you can pray:
“Oh Lord, I come humbly before you. In myself there is no good thing. In you is Perfection Purity and Salvation.
I come to the cross of Jesus and admit I have been a selfish sinner.
Please forgive me, and live your life in me to do your will. I now ask you to be my Lord over all that pertains to my life.
Amen.
“WE EXALT YOU OH LORD,
ABOVE THE HEAVENS!”
