5.THE BOOK OF JONAH!

JONAH REGURGITATED.

God had caused the considerable fish to vomit Jonah back where he should have been.

JONAH AND THE CITY.

Most remarkable is the repentance of Nineveh, the Great City, in chapter three. This miracle is to be judged by the size of the city.

Three times, God speaks of Nineveh as:

“That great city.” The city was as large as a day’s journey.

Jonah preaching to the population of Ninevah.

The last verse of the previous chapter had,” More than three thousand persons could not discern the difference between the right hand or the left and also ”very much cattle!”

Who are these people who could not tell their right hand from their left? I think it was babies and little children!!

Those who do not know the right hand ✋👌 from the left are
BABIES and LITTLE CHILDREN!

Based upon the trigonometric survey of this locality, the entire area of Assyria was three hundred and fifty square miles. Its population is estimated at one million, so we can see it was a very great city. Jonah’s message to them was simple, understandable and believable.

“YET IN FORTY DAYS, I WILL DESTROY THIS LAND. NINEVA  WILL BE OVERTHROWN.”

Did they believe this bleached-skinned Prophet from the water that seemed to have risen from the sea? Now, the most significant clue to the reason why Jonah’sappearance and proclamation of Nineveh created such a stir is also found in the New Testament in our Lord’s words.

“THIS IS AN EVIL GENERATION; THEY SEEK A SIGN, AND NO SIGN WILL BE GIVEN IT, BUT THE SIGN OF JONAH THE PROPHET.”

“FOR JONAH WAS THE SIGN TO THE NINEVITES. SO SHALL THE SON OF MAN BE TO THIS GENERATION.”                   Luke 9:29,30.

It seems that the Ninevites were already afraid of calamity coming upon them.                              Politically, things were changing around them. Babylon, at this time, was strengthening itself against Assyria and refused to submit further.       Israel, Judah and Syria refused to pay tribute and claimed some territory under Jeroboam, the King of Israel.

Nineveh was ready to hear and obey the Word of God. Herodotus, a Greek Historian, confirmed that Nineveh’s King and the Nobles led Nineveh into mourning for sin, and they proclaimed a general fast by Royal edict and the animals were included.

That it did take place is confirmed by Jesus Himself.

“THE MEN OF NINEVEH REPENTED AT THE PREACHING OF JONAH.”

Ninevah repented after God warned them.

This account of Jonah reveals to us a lesson in obedience and submission to Jesus as LORD! (Boss)

Have you made Jesus your Lord and Saviour?

Jonah’s  was a delayed obedience. God demands ‘immediate’ obedience without excuses and with a heart of love and an attitude of joy.

You do not choose how far or how deeper you must go in Christ. That must be His choice, then He will give you the power to travel those difficult highways and the low roads and bring Glory to Himself.

You just SUBMIT!

The result of obedience is peace ‘with’ God and the peace ‘of ‘ God.                          Also, believe Him for more incredible things,                    EVEN MIRACLES!

Dear reader, it’s the path that leads to LIFE!

Choose the Narrow way!

Amen.
