2. THE BOOK OF PROVERBS.

WHERE IS JESUS IN THE BOOK OF PROVERBS?

The whole Bible points to Jesus.

An excellent book to study.

“Jesus, on the pages of my Bible. Jesus, He brings to my heart revival. Jesus my Wonderful Lord.”

His presence is sometimes referred to as the Red Thread.

The red thread is any passage, verse, or story, especially in the Old Testament that gives a hint of Jesus.

Finding Him in the Prophetic books is easier as there are direct prophesies concerning Him.

See Isaiah chapter 9:6,3.

“FOR UNTO US, A CHILD IS BORN. UNTO US A SON IS GIVEN, AND THE GOVERNMENT SHALL BE UPON HIS SHOULDER.”

HIS NAME SHALL BE CALLED.

WONDERFUL, COUNSELLOR, MIGHTY GOD, EVERLASTING FATHER, THE PRINCE OF PEACE.”

“How could people think that Jesus is not God?

“Great is the mystery of godliness: GOD manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory?”

1:Timothy 3:16.

JESUS IS GOD.

In the Narrative books of the Bible and the historical books, we notice a red thread and see glimpses of Jesus.

For example, the Passover lamb in Exodus chapter 12. Where the blood of the lamb is painted over the doorway to safeguard the inhabitants from death. The lamb died in the place of the firstborn. Jesus took your place by shedding His blood and dying for you, so you can have eternal life.

WHAT ABOUT THIS BOOK OF PROVERBS, IS JESUS HERE?

When we visit a Museum we don’t go there to have a coffee and cake, have a quick look and exit. We go there to ponder each piece of art. So, this is what we will do with some of the verses in Proverbs to remind us of Jesus.

PROVERBS 18:24. “There is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.” Even though this verse speaks of human relationships, we can choose carefully our wise friends. Jesus said, “I call you friends.”

He referred to his disciples as his friends.

In the book of Hebrews chapter 13:5

He as a close friend will never leave you or forsake you. “So we can boldly say, and I shall not fear what man can do unto me.”

“He is the one who sticks closer than a brother.”

“Because He is the same yesterday, and today and forever.”

Hebrews 13: 5, 6, 8.

He promises in Matthew 28:20.

“I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS EVEN UNTO THE END OF THIS AGE.” (🌎)

“HE IS MORE PRECIOUS THAN SILVER.” Proverbs 8: 10,11.

A lovely song circled the Christian scene back in the ’70s.

“Lord, You Are more precious than Silver.

Lord, You are more costly than gold.

Lord, You are more beautiful than diamonds.

And nothing I desire compares with You.”

Proverbs 8:10,11. Lady Wisdom is spoken of as having birth, a beginning.

Jesus the Son had had no beginning. He is eternal, God in the flesh. So wisdom and Jesus are not the same person.

However, Jesus is the ultimate embodiment of wisdom. Not the Lady wisdom we spoke of previously. Jesus as God in the flesh. His earthly life was marked by wisdom.

To read more studies:

In Colossians 2:3. We read “That in Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

Jesus lived out and fulfilled the book of Proverbs. Because He Is Wisdom, He also provides wisdom to His people. He promised the disciples following the resurrection they would receive His wisdom.

“For I will give you words, and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.”

Luke 21:15.

This was fulfilled by both Peter and Stephen.

Today for us as Christians the book of James suggests that if we lack wisdom, all we need to do is to ask God for much-needed wisdom and He will generously give it to us. James 1:5.

He never gets tired of you asking for Wisdom.

How does He pour out His Wisdom?

By giving us the book of Proverbs to read!

Hey… Let’s Read it!

Let’s Live it!

Amen.
